The stone man on the column is Stonewall Jackson, Confederate general under Robert E. Lee's command. The tomb beneath him contains veterans of the Army of Northern Virginia. Jackson however is buried in Lexington, Virginia. The President of the Confederate states, Jefferson Davis, was buried with pomp in this tomb, then moved a year later to a tomb in Richmond, Virginia.
