I great way to involve little kids in the seed starting process. I just have Lila hold her hand directly above the little flat and then I pour a few seeds at a time into her hand. All she has to do is turn her hand over to dump them into the soil.

My first visit to Japan was far too brief - just a week to explore Tokyo and Kyoto. And yet, it surpassed my expectations, demolished my preconceptions, and spoiled me with color and vibrancy.

Of course she has to get a little creative with dumping the seeds! She is brushing them off of her hands. Really that just makes them stick to both hands and fly about on all sides of the seed flat but hey what's a few seeds lost in the process.

Unfortunately, when I took these photos, the sun was not my friend, it was very bright. Here you see a stream running through the Japanese Garden at Sonnenberg. Everything is specifically designed right down to the stone paths and water features. Notice the stone bridge in the background. Located at the Sonnenberg Gardens and Mansion State Historic Park, 151 Charlotte Street in Canandaigua, NY.
