Topo visited the farm today, and found the goats and alpacas very interesting. The farm welcomes many dog owners, as it's next to a popular walking trail.

Something has to change

Undeniable dilemma

Boredom's not a burden anyone should bear

Constant over stimulation numbs me

But I would not want you any other way

Just not enough, I need more

Nothing seems to satisfy

I said, I don't want it, I just need it

To breathe, to feel, to know I'm alive

Finger deep within the borderline

Show me that you love me and that we belong together

Relax, turn around and take my hand

Museum De Pont, a museum for contemporary art in Tilburg, is housed in a former wool mill.

De Pont has been named after the attorney and businessman Jan de Pont (1915-1987), whose estate provided for the establishment of a foundation to stimulate contemporary visual art in 1988.

Transformed (1989) into a museum by Benthem Crouwel Architects.

Every innovation scraps its immediate predecessor and retrieves still older figures – it causes floods of antiques or nostalgic art forms and stimulates the search for museum pieces. -Marshall McLuhan

I was at a hospital to visit a sick friend and for some reason, I couldn’t help but notice this girl by the window, who was also waiting to visit someone. I'm guessing he was very glad to see her !!

I took this picture from a distance because I liked the fact the he was standing and there’s a shadow. I didn’t realize his level of excitement until I went to post it. I made a hard decision after a stiff drink and posted anyway.

In a time of rapid online stimulation, being cute is not only attractive but also a powerful tool for manipulation, comfort, or provocation.

In een tijd vol snelle online prikkels is Cute zijn niet alleen aantrekkelijk, maar ook een krachtig middel om te manipuleren, troosten of uitdagen

The bananas in my Banana Jungle aren't like the ones in the grocery store. They're stocky and sturdy and hearty and thoroughly delicious. They're called Sweet Fig Bananas.

Today this whole bunch is ripe and ready and it's time for me to peel back the skins, slice and bag all the ones we can't eat. They are fantastic frozen... 40 pounds is more than enough for now and for later. You have to taste them to appreciate the difference Living in a Jungle makes... even if you're a banana!

Bananas are the staple starch of many tropical populations. Depending upon cultivar and ripeness, the flesh can vary in taste from starchy to sweet, and texture from firm to mushy. Both skin and inner part can be eaten raw or cooked. Bananas' flavor is due, amongst other chemicals, to isoamyl acetate which is one of the main constituents of banana oil.

During the ripening process, bananas produce a plant hormone called ethylene, which indirectly affects the flavor. Among other things, ethylene stimulates the formation of amylase, an enzyme that breaks down starch into sugar, influencing the taste of bananas. The greener, less ripe bananas contain higher levels of starch and, consequently, have a "starchier" taste. On the other hand, yellow bananas taste sweeter due to higher sugar concentrations. Furthermore, ethylene signals the production of pectinase, an enzyme which breaks down the pectin between the cells of the banana, causing the banana to soften as it ripens.

Bananas are eaten deep fried, baked in their skin in a split bamboo, or steamed in glutinous rice wrapped in a banana leaf. Bananas can be made into jam. Banana pancakes are popular amongst backpackers and other travelers in South Asia and Southeast Asia. This has elicited the expression Banana Pancake Trail for those places in Asia that cater to this group of travelers. Banana chips are a snack produced from sliced dehydrated or fried banana or plantain, which have a dark brown color and an intense banana taste. Dried bananas are also ground to make banana flour. Extracting juice is difficult, because when a banana is compressed, it simply turns to pulp. Bananas fried with batter is a popular dessert in Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia. A similar dish is known in the United States as banana fritters. Plantains are used in various stews and curries or cooked, baked or mashed in much the same way as potatoes.

I find freedom in the wonderment of untamed nature and am stimulated by the mystery of all the creatures and plant life around me. The misformed, damaged or dying trees have a beauty all their own.

Yesterday I read an article that during this shutdown time we should be aware our dogs need mental stimulation.

Benni is getting the same amount of physical exercise but I have to admit to being careless with her brain workouts.

So last night I used her two treat containers to feed her the cup of kibble she gets for supper. She nosed the one you see her using here until she got frustrated and then whacked it with her paw.

The treat tower is an old favorite and she knocks it around with both paws and nose.

Bossing Don and me around all day should be considered brain activity, right??

after an incredibly visually stimulating weekend, i am exhausted. my best buddy from college came to visit for the weekend. (chicagokristi).

we had a blast...but did not rest AT ALL! we love the same things...photography, urban shots, vintage stuff, antiques, thrift stores, beads, etc. So, that's what we did the entire weekend-----nonstop.

i realized late tonight that i hadn't done a 365 shot today and had a million great opportunities, but it just slipped my mind. so.........this is it. tired me. i actually spent the whole afternoon sleeping, and poor kristi had to do the long drive back to chicago w/ no nap. she must have been soooooooooo tired!

it's so strange how much friendships effect my life. i am so fortunate to have some of the very best friends in the world. many of you are here on flickr, but many many more are people who have been there for me through the very rough times. and fun times. we have awesome memories and look forward to a future of growing old "together."

kristi has been all of this for me. i met her in college and was very intimidated by her. i was sure she was way too cool to be my friend. she was a walking barbie doll and very very popular. i don't remember exact instance that those barriers were broken down and we became friends (i'm sure we were both wasted and that has something to do with it!!)

anyway, we soon learned that we shared a lot of things, including: our desire and appreciation for creativity, our unorganized crazy nature, our rough and troubled relationships with our dads, our never-ending struggles with money, our views toward the world, our desire to be crazy and always seek out fun, our hard-working nature, our love of animals, our poor self-images, our forgetfulness and just goofiness.

Over the years, we have remained friends, and despite the fact that we live in different states and time zones, we have become even closer. we can go months without talking, and when we finally do, we're ok with it and it seems like no time has passed. Kristi was there for me during the most difficult time of my life (i mean literally THERE!...she was in my house when i first discovered my cheating husband!...yikes!). She has been a shoulder for me to cry on, and an ear to listen. She always knows the right thing to say and when to say it. She is non-judgemental and cares about so many things more than anyone i know.

Kristi, i had a great weekend with you and so look forward to the next time we get to spend together. You just rock girl. Thanks for everything. I love you buddy!! :)

The solitude of life stimulates our creative mind and empowers the best of our thinking ability. It makes us wonder about our journey in life. Wondering why for others they want to explore the adventure of life and some just love to live and find peace in solitude.

LIP-TOUCH

Gesture. 1. A brief or sustained tactile stimulation of the supersensitive fleshy folds around the mouth. 2. A touch delivered to one or both lips with the knuckles, fingers, or tactile pads of the fingertips, or with an object (e.g., a pencil or pen) held in the hands.

Usage: One of our most common self-touch cues, the lip-touch signals a variety of moods and mental states including anxiety, boredom, excitement, fear, horror, and uncertainty. Stimulating the lips diverts attention, e.g., from a. disturbing thoughts and b. people who may upset us. As a self-consoling gesture, the lip-touch is equivalent to infantile thumb-sucking. (!!!!!!)

Observation. In a conversation, cross-examination, or interview, the lip-touch marks a nonverbal probing point, i.e., an unexpressed feeling, opinion, or thought to be explored.

RESEARCH REPORTS: 1. With adult strangers, girls show more hand-to-mouth gestures than boys (Stern and Bender 1974:245). 2. At 3-to-6 months, babies bring most objects to the mouth to be touched and explored (Chase and Rubin 1978:186).

Neuro-notes. Touching the mouth is emotionally analgesic (i.e., helps relieve physical and psychic pain). Our brain's cerebral neocortex devotes a disproportionately large part of its surface area to fingers, hands, and lips (see HOMUNCULUS). In the mind's eye, pressing "huge" fingertips against "enormous" lips is an efficient form of acupressure.

touching my lips on 50% of my selfportraits - that's pretty interesting... ;)

A sudden loss of voice¸ the words come and go. A sudden loss of voice looks like a trance. Restitution is like being In The Face¸ closely¸ about as still as beautiful scenery when you pass it by moving quickly¸ and at one moment there is a tone¸ a serious tightening of the jaw¸ an expressionless face just as if to set up words in the cavity of one's eyes that are always open to the impulse to proudly flood out laughter¸ as if by request ― the feeling within you that is expected to be stimulated of what long remains a bright light¸ planting the Tender into the anti-blink of an eye.
