When I worked Irving ISD at Lee Britain Elementary between 2003 and 2011ish, I met Sonia and her husband who were parent volunteers at the school. When I first met her I was an instructional specialist then AP at the school. As soon as I met her I knew she would be a great teacher. I pestered her mercilessly until she finally enrolled in a program to become a teacher through alternative certification as she already had a degree. Eventually she was a teacher at my then school. As happens over time, she went one way and I went another. I would occasionally see her in Irving, but she eventually left the district. I did not know until today that she’s been working in my hometown and I never knew it. I now help mentor new teachers. I was a visiting a teacher at a school in Midlothian and just across the hall was Sonia!!!!! Small world!
