Harris Beach State Park is an Oregon State Park located on US Highway 101, north of Brookings. The day-use area offers a restroom and picnic area with tables, and the campground has RV sites, yurts and tent sites available year-round. It is named after the Scottish pioneer George Harris who settled here in the late 1880s to raise sheep and cattle. Harris Beach State Park is home to Bird Island (also known as Goat Island), which is reported to be the largest island off the Oregon Coast and is a National Wildlife Refuge. Henryton State Hospital is a now-closed hospital complex in Maryland. The original complex opened in 1922 and consisted of 6 main buildings and one utility plant. These buildings were erected between the years of 1921 and 1923. By the fall of 1985, the facility was emptied, locked, boarded up, and closed for good.

I loved the way this pic came together. The beautiful Asian lady was photographing a young boy and a man, and she set up perfectly for my own shots of her concentrating on the moment.

The crumbling remains of a gateway and former stable block of Fryston Hall. This is as close as I cared to go, as the current owner, farmer Aaron, is locally notorious for his vicious dogs and shotguns...

The State Agora at Ephesus, Izmir, Turkey, 25 October 2009. The State Agora, 1st Century BC, was a meeting place for governmental discussions and trade deals. Note the feral cat in the foreground posing. Ephesus was first established on the site of a Hittite settlement (Apasa) on Ayasuluk Hill by Attic and Ionian Greeks in the 10th Century BC. In c.300 BC the population moved from the hill to a new, coastal location (of the present ruins) founded by Lysimakhos, one of Alexander the Great’s generals. In 129 BC Ephesus, as part of the Greek Kingdom of Pergamon, fell to the Romans and subsequently became capital of the Roman Province of Asia Minor. However, in 263 AD the city was destroyed by the Goths. Although rebuilt, its port began to silt up and then in 614 AD Ephesus was destroyed by an earthquake. Despite being rebuilt again, sackings by Arabs in 655, 700 and 716 and the continuing silting up of the port resulted in the populace gradually moving back to Ayasuluk Hill.

Custer State Park is a South Dakota State Park and wildlife reserve in the Black Hills, United States. The park is South Dakota's largest and first state park, named after Lt. Colonel George Armstrong Custer. The park covers an area of over 71,000 acres (287 km2) of varied terrain including rolling prairie grasslands and rugged mountains.
The park is home to a herd of 1,500 bison. Elk, coyotes, mule deer, white tailed deer, mountain goats, prairie dogs, bighorn sheep, river otters, pronghorn, cougars, and feral burros also inhabit the park. The park is known for its scenery, its scenic drives (Needles Highway and the wildlife loop), with views of the bison herd and prairie dog towns. This park is easily accessible by road from Rapid City. Other nearby attractions are Wind Cave National Park, Mount Rushmore, Jewel Cave National Monument, Crazy Horse Memorial, and Badlands National Park.

Feeding and disturbing park wildlife is against park regulations. While the animals within the park are used to visitors and vehicles, they are still wild animals. Please remain in your vehicle or stay at least 100 yards from bison, elk, and other animals.
Pets must be on a leash no longer than 10 feet and are not allowed in any park buildings or on designated swim beaches. Please clean up after your pet and do not leave it unattended. Service animals are welcome.
Firearms must be unloaded and cased unless during a hunting season with the proper license. Concealed carry is allowed with the appropriate permit.

Many moons ago, I started adding coins that had unusual pictures engraved on them... I wanted to have each state in the album but have fallen short on that goal... At any rate perhaps I will live long enough to finish that project...
Located primarily in Fayette County, Ohiopyle State Park encompasses about 19,052 acres of rugged natural beauty and serves as the gateway to the Laurel Mountains. The focal point of the area is the more than 14 miles of the Youghiogheny [yaw-ki-GAY-nee] River Gorge that passes through the heart of the park. The "Yough" [yawk] provides some of the best whitewater boating in the Eastern U. S. as well as spectacular scenery. Surrounding Ohiopyle Falls is the Falls Day Use Area, the central point for the casual visitor. This area provides parking, modern restrooms, gift shop/snack bar, and overlook platforms with magnificent scenery
This is the Palmetto Tree, our state tree.
It earned its distinction in the Revolutionary War, serving as fort walls, literally absorbing british cannon balls from warships that were pounding the crap out of the fort. As in, the cannon balls would go into the tree, but not out the other side. Kind of saved our butts, I'd think.
The Worcester State Hospital opened in 1877. The hospital has been abandoned for many years and most of the building was destroyed by a fire in 1991.
