This is the outer shell of one of Krefeld's home improvement stores. I am wondering why they all, like Home Depot, have orange as a theme color. The story of this shot?
I was approached by an employee (after beeing stared at by customers for a while) asking me if he could help. No, I am fine, I am just taking shots of the wall nothing more, and the carts and the hinges of some doors. No, forbidden, need approval of Mr. V. O.k. I explained to Mr. V. - no big deal, no spying, just abstract images. I could go ahead. I was into it when I heard "whatyour doing there?" A customer in his top of the line Audi started shouting. I asked him who he was, somebody from the company? No, just a concerned citizen. He added: "I could arrest you for taking shots - people can arrest people if ..." "a crime is happening or had just happened," I added. So, what's the crime? He said: "Just this, taking photos, uhm, you could be preparing a theft." "Preparing," I said, "is not a crime and does not fall under the statute." I explained what I did for a living and he backed up. He isn't like the Stasi, he said, just concerned. Now that you mentioned it, I thought.

in der Brandenburger Buchheide, mitten im Wald, liegt ein großes Bauwerk: Das MfS liess hier ein Wellnesshotel für seine verdienten Mitarbeiter bauen.
Während das Bettenhaus in herkommlicher Plattenbauweise errichtet wurde, so wurde der angefügte Restaurant- und Wellnessbereich vergleichsweise aufwändig und unkonventionell gebaut.
Hierzu wurden Spezialfenster aus Schweden mit Devisen eingekauft und verbaut.
Aus Planungsunterlagen des MfS geht hervor, das für das Hotel sogar Sportwaffen beschafft werden sollten.
Die Anlieferung des Hotels war so konstruiert, das man von aussen nicht sehen konnte, was angeliefert wurde.
Das Hotel sollte 1990 fertiggestellt werden. Doch die politische Lage führte schon 1989 dazu, dass der Bau gestoppt wurde.
Das Hotel ist nie fertig geworden.

Das war eine der "Versuchsanstalten der Stasi" hier wurden Fußbodenbelege entwickelt, die das "lautlose" Gehen ermöglichten. Gefangene sollten mit allen Sinnen desorientiert werden und auch keine Möglichkeit haben mitzubekommen, wenn Wärter oder Gefangene an ihren Zellen vorbei gingen. Hier wurden auch Kontaktgifte, Betäubungsmittel usw. entwickelt um Personen zu töten oder anderweitig aus zu schalten, um nur einiges zu nennen.

New acquisition. It has been a while since I last indulged, so today I gave in and bought an old camera. An Ilford Sportsman, with f2.8/45mm Dacora dignar lens in a Pronto shutter. Nothing earth-shaking photographically, but it should be reasonably competant. I already have one, perhaps an earlier model, which showed potential but is now out of action. This example looked clean and came with a decent carry case and original instructions. That booklet has a fly leaf stuck to the front anouncing that the camera has an f2.8 lens instead of an f3.5 lens, with which earlier models had been fitted. The viewfinder has bright line frames for compositional guidance.
E. and I went to Berlin to remember the Fall of the Wall. I'll upload some of my favorite images over the next couple of days. I will be a difficult choice! This one is the DDR museum. Check out "das Leben der Anderen".

Whilst laying in bed last night I noticed a piece of photography paraphernalia stashed in one of my many corners dotted around the house. I believe it's called a speed ring. So tonight's shot was based around that.
Speed ring framed and centered at minimum focus distance on the Minolta 50mm. Next swap lens to the Pentax 28mm and the large diffuser hung in front. I next centered a sheet of a3 card stuck on with a bowl sized circle cut from the middle and the falling man stuck mid frame. Tested exposure for both elements and set to.
Lit the falling man from behind for 1 second with a green led, cap on and moved the sheet of diffusion material. Swapped lenses to the Pentax, cap off and side lit the speed ring from left and right in blue and red, mid exposure aperture change to f22 and waved the lightpainting brushes black fibers around the periphery of the speed ring to fill the frame.
