A Short (131 image) stack taken tonight at Thwaite Flat. loving It.

My first attempt at startrails

My first attempt at star trails. Shot in the Trough of Bowland over around 80 shots. It was longer but dew on the lense and two cars passing by ruined several shots.

The brighter stars you can see are the Plough with the Polaris just off the top right of the shot.

In the lower left of the image you can see a series of faint lined running almost vertically, these were shooting stars.

My settings for this were f5.6, 30 second exposure, ISO 400 for 100 frames.

Just testing startrails, they do look a bit out of focus, will have another go soon. 11 x15secs exposures stacked using startrails program.

This is the first startrail I've made. I know it's nothing special, but I'm too excited to see I can do it too :D

South(ish!) facing short startrails image made from some shots that I captured recently.

Haven't uploaded anything for a while, this is 72minutes worth of exposure with a Canon 450D @10mm. Looking towards the South celestial pole with the glow of Christchurch illuminating the lower portion. Temperature was 2c, used a small telescope heater to keep the lens from fogging up. Will have another go with a sodium rejection filter soon.

Another sleepless night, thought I'd play around with the stars. Foreground isn't much to look at but I have somewhat achieved the concept I had in my head, so I must be learning something ?

View from Croagh Patrick over Murrisk and Clew Bay. Exposure was cut short due to cloud cover coming in :-(

Startrail and beech tree clump. Made from 400 stacked images using StarStax. Lumix DMC-GX7, 20mm, 10sec, f1.7, ISO200.

~70 30s exposures stacked using startrails.exe.

I have always wanted to try out the star trails. and the camping was just an excuse to get my friends out on a moonless night.

Here I had the perfect subject for the foreground.

I wasn't really concerned about the center of the stars' circle, which btw is the Polaris a.k.a the North star. The stars appear from earth to circle around the Polaris.

Getting started:

Mount the camera on the tripod. take a couple of sample shots to check the composition and exposure for 30s shots. Had to crank up ISO upto 640 as there was almost no other light than the stars themselves. In the middle of the desert no civilization for miles.

Put a carpet behind the camera with a couple of friends with the remote shutter release in my hand. Sat there for about 30-45 mins clicking the remote every 30s. Finally, we decided we had enough.

The last part is where I capture the vehicle.

1st exposure for the exterior.

Using my Quantary 900WA strobed the vehicle @ 1/8 power.

2nd exposure for interior.

Switched on the lights inside the vehicle to capture details inside the vehicle.

Stacked up all the images using the startrails.exe. A very easy to use tool.

And you can see the result after minor color/level adjustment in CS4.

You can download the software here ->http://www.startrails.de/Startrails.zip

thanks for looking.
