a mountain peak in the Arctic region of Norway dreaming of the space above it during a luminous light of beginning Northern Lights. This was the moment when only the first shy signs of the Aurora Borealis became visible, some instances later the Northern Lights were in full display :)

the very moment of a new display of Northern Lights preparing in the sky above us during our stay in the Arctic region of Norway.

Good Night everybody!

“A philosopher once asked, ‘Are we human because we gaze at the stars, or do we gaze at them because we are human?’ Pointless, really… ‘Do the stars gaze back?’ Now, that’s a question.” — Neil Gaiman, Stardust

The moment when the Northern Lights appearance went so strong and bold, it covered the entire sky and kept waving, undulating and morphing from the very shore to the other side of the sea straight.

I re-edited some night captures I took at the Trona Pinnacles from 2018 with Nik filters. That night was so terrible windy I could barely hold the tipod still for my 20 and 30 second exposures. I had to pack it in early due to the weather conditions. As I recall there was a crescent moon, that light wasn't just from my light painting.

Our last night during this year's Iceland excursion (our fifth) saw us wild camping at the beautiful Hvalfjordur fjord in Southwest Iceland, not too far away from Reykjavik where we had to return our rental van early next day. When we stepped outside after dinner we saw the overture of what would become so far the wildest Northern Lights we have ever witnessed and we've already seen quite a few :)

No words will ever describe the emotions one goes through when standing in a dark spot late night and seeing the skies open their cloud clover and starting the dance of those green plumes and veils while the stars look down unabashed and just keep "twinkling". You stop feeling cold, you forget where you stand and all that matters is that celestial serenata playing for you and everyone else nearby :)

Happy Gorgeous Green Thursday!

my fun take of Callanish Standing Stones on isle of Lewis for this Sunday Slider. I had noticed the shapes of those enormous stones resembling hooded, moving figures in some cases and thought I'd convert this closeup into a mummers dance :) - Happy Sliders Sunday! :)

Halloween and "spooky" is always a challenge to me, and more than with the spooky side of it, I feel a bit more comfortable with the magical and the fantasy in it.

It has been a stormy and rainy day, so I played some more with Luminar4. One of my night shots of St. Augustine during the Nights of Light Christmas light display.

Some examples of events listed on the geologic time scale include the first appearance of plant life on Earth, the first appearance of animals on Earth, the formation of Earth's mountains, and the extinction of the dinosaurs.

winter nights above the Arctic Circle are often blessed with appearances of Aurora Borealis which seem to be competing with those bright nights us humans create to beat the darkness.

I am still finding so many different moments of the Northern Lights in my foulders from our excursion to the Arctic region of Norway in December, I just can't stop watching and posting the. I hope nobody gets bored :p

I met with Alice and Karen to shoot the Milky Way at Santa Margarita Lake. This is a panorama of 7 vertical shots, thanks to Alice for the idea.

One can't help but feel totally humbled and insignificant when standing in the presence of the grandiosity of nature. Northern Lights are one of those aspects that are capable to instill us with awe and wonder and I am utterly grateful for every such moment I have been able to experience.

The bright star on the lower left is actually the planet Saturn. The middle star is Altair and the top right star is Vega. The line up in a perfect diagonal line above the Temple of the Sun. This images is full of natural wonders. Stars, Planets, Milky Way galaxy, air glow, and our home.

and here one of the grandiose finale moments of one of our Northern Lights nights in Northern Norway: This swirls kept expanding and expaning and covered pretty much half of the sky above our heads

Another instance from our second night in North Iceland during our latest excursion there. We camped wild by the fjord with views on to Akureyri. After dinner in our 4x4 campervan we stepped outside to explore and could not believe our eyes. Northern Lights in October! And what wonderfully gracious ones they were!

more wonderful shapes and transformations of colours in that Northern Lights display we were happy to capture in Northern Norway.

I was alone on the top of the big fell... I hoped to see some Auroras but there was only some weak ones. But I liked the fine bright moonlight and enjoyed this gorgeous landscape :)

Zion is a great place to re-connect with the night sky, or maybe even get your first view of the Milky Way. Zion protects this dark sky resource for future generations by not lighting up the night. This means that after sunset, the park is very dark so be prepared.

Fairyland Canyon, located one mile north of the National Park entrance station, offers an opportunity to see hoodoos at an "eye-to-eye" level. These hoodoos have inspired imaginations for years, and visitors today are bound to be as enchanted as were the Paiute Indians, who saw the hoodoos as ancient peoples turned to stone.

one of the highlights of our Northern Lights experiences in Northern Norway: the moment when the entire sky was covered by this amazing twirl turning into a giant kind of vortex.

This fabulous jetty was graced by the presence of wonderful aurora borealis displays making it appear to be floating over green waters. The night was so calm and starry, cold yet not windy, a delight to be outside and to photograph the natural beauty of Troms in Northern Norway.

Had a wonderful night in South Coyote Buttes shooting this pano with Wayne Pinkston and Peter Ensrud. Beautiful clear night skies with incredible features make Coyote Buttes incredible. Even though North Coyote Buttes is the best known area, South Coyote Buttes is just as special. It was great meeting Peter and shooting with Wayne.
