There are masses of beautiful yellow tulips in the public gardens along our Main Street but I did notice one that did stand out from all the rest!

Two trees stood out in the morning fog as the sun was rising. There was a glimpse of sun highlighting the trunks of the tree.

These standout Hummers visit us only in late summer, arriving around the beginning of July. Other more northern breeding Hummers also pass through NM. The Calliope is regular, but not common at lower altitudes (We're at 8600 ft. msl.). I have rarely spotted them up here this high.

The Black-shouldered Kite (Elanus axillaris) is a striking and elegant bird of prey found across Australia, easily identified by its contrasting plumage and distinctive hunting behavior. Its predominantly white body is set off by striking black patches on its shoulders and wingtips, along with piercing red eyes that add to its captivating appearance. Often seen hovering gracefully in the air, the Black-shouldered Kite hunts small mammals, insects, and reptiles, displaying remarkable agility and precision. Its ability to hover in place while scanning the ground below is a mesmerizing sight for bird watchers and photographers. The Black-shouldered Kite's beauty and hunting prowess make it a standout species in the diverse landscape of Australian raptors.

I'm glad I usually have my camera in the car with me on the way to work. The long light of autumn is the best!
