This beautiful steeple was built of fine bricks, slate roofing on top of Kalker Chapel. Four (golden) clocks are installed, one on each side of the steeple’s base.

The Kalker Chapel was rebuilt between 1948 and 1950 after it was destroyed in the Second World War . It has its origins in the early modern period around 1666/67. The chapel is located in the Kalk district at the junction of the Kalker Hauptstrasse and Kapellenstrasse, which branches off to the southeast in the direction of the Vingst district.

I have a colored version of this shot, which I will share later.

The power of sight that is created as natural to the soul is charity. The power of sight has two eyes, love and reason. Reason cannot see God except in what he is not; love rests not except in what he is. Reason has its secure paths, by which it proceeds. Love experiences failure, but failure advances it more than reason. Reason advances toward what God is, by means of what God is not. Love sets aside what God is not and rejoices that it fails in what God is. Reason has more satisfaction than love, but love has more sweetness of blessings than reason. These two, however, are of great mutual help one to the other; for reason instructs love and love enlightens reason. When reason abandons itself to love's wish, and love consents to be forced and held within the bounds of reason, they can accomplish a very great work. This no one can learn except by experience.

Eureka Southern train #2, the northbound between Willits and Eureka, CA just north of Willits on July 11, 1985. Unless you had your eyes closed, you could not miss this coming at you amonst all the deep greens of the surrounding trees.

Happy Tree-mendous Tuesday!

It is hard to stand out when there are 384 tanager species in the world (only 5 in North America) but this bird commanded its share of attention as it hunted for bugs at Reserva Mashpi-Amagusa in the Ecuadorian cloud forest.

This was a standout moment for me, being able to both see and board this historic vessel, a faithful replica of the original.

At Cherating, Sth China Sea, off Malaysia. This shot of wild coastal nature was taken from the hillside pool of the resort, I was staying at, having a good time.

Walking down two the beach, the dense rainforest background was full of monkeys, tropical chirping birds, and all manner of wildlife. The water was fresh, the beach sand soft but easy to stroll along as one enjoyed paddling in the shallow water, and hearing the waves as well as the wild forest wildlife calls. Truly, another world away from the bustling city.

I like the isolation, the colour, the brighter light in the background, and the crop was quite deliberately cinematic.

The Arecaceae are a botanical family of perennial plants. Their growth form can be climbers, shrubs, tree-like and stemless plants, all commonly known as palms. Those having a tree-like form are colloquially called palm trees. They are flowering plants, a family in the monocot order Arecales. Currently 181 genera with around 2600 species are known, most of them restricted to tropical and subtropical climates. Most palms are distinguished by their large, compound, evergreen leaves, known as fronds, arranged at the top of an unbranched stem. However, palms exhibit an enormous diversity in physical characteristics and inhabit nearly every type of habitat within their range, from rainforests to deserts.

Palms are among the best known and most extensively cultivated plant families. They have been important to humans throughout much of history. Many common products and foods are derived from palms. In contemporary times, palms are also widely used in landscaping, making them one of the most economically important plants. In many historical cultures, because of their importance as food, palms were symbols for such ideas as victory, peace, and fertility. For inhabitants of cooler climates today, palms symbolize the tropics and vacations. Most palms are native to tropical and subtropical climates. Palms thrive in moist and hot climates but can be found in a variety of different habitats. Their diversity is highest in wet, lowland forests. South America, the Caribbean, and areas of the south Pacific and southern Asia are regions of concentration. Colombia may have the highest number of palm species in one country. 36744

Fall colours in the fields of the Ottawa Valley, near Arnprior, Ontario, Canada. One tree in particular caught my eye; it was a brightly coloured orange maple standing away from the forest along a fence bordering a hay field and a corn field.
