One of the gaps we "colored in" on this trip was the Great Gallery in Canyonlands National Park. Seeing photos is not enough, there's a 32 mile ride in on a dirt road to get to the hike that's part of the experience and at the end of that is all of this...
A big canyon, some world class rock art, a green truck, a very artfully decorated potty, Aron Ralston's arm... though I understand the Park Service has removed that.

The Main Market Square was laid out in 1257 after Mongol hordes swept through Kraków in 1241. It is the largest medieval town square in Europe and is surrounded by historical townhouses, palaces, and churches. The center of the square is dominated by the Sukiennice (the Cloth Hall).
In 1978 UNESCO placed the Main Square, as part of the Old Town Kraków, on the list of World Heritage Sites. In March 1980, Walenty Badylak, retired baker and a veteran of Poland's wartime underground Home Army, set himself alight while chained to a well in Rynek Główny. He was protesting the communist government's refusal to acknowledge the Katyn war crime. Rynek Główny was also central in staging mass Solidarity demonstrations.
This is a photograph from the Ringtown GAA Club Half Marathon and 10KM Road Races, fun runs, and walks which were held in Whitehall, Castlepollard, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Easter Sunday (April 21st 2014) at 11:15 and 11:30 respectively. Ringtown GAA club is situated in Whitehall which is on the R394 between Mullingar and Castlepollard. The GAA club is shown here on Google Streetview [goo.gl/maps/UI9tD]. The half marathon started outside the GAA club. The 10KM race started about 1KM away from the start/finish area. Both races shared the same route. The race event was also a fundraiser for the charity TEAM (Temporary Emergency Accomodation Mullingar) which provides emergency accomodation for women and children of the midlands who are subject of domestic and sexual violence. They are located at Teach Fáilte, Green Road, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath.

The half marathon started at the GAA club. The main loop of 6 miles started here and proceeded around some beautiful rural back roads with major turns at [goo.gl/maps/8Iw9S], [goo.gl/maps/in6yE], and goo.gl/maps/JJzwM before joining up with the R394 and Castlepollard and returning back to Ringtown/Whitehall.
This was the GAA club's first attempt at staging a running event and the overwhelming reaction of participants was that it went perfectly. There was a team of Motorcycle outriders and Gardai who expertly controlled traffic flow (particularly along the very busy R394) and made for very safe running conditions for all participants. There was a wonderful selection of refreshments provided afterwards and maybe people were able to sit out in the sun and enjoy a well earned rest after the race. Shower facilities were provided in the GAA club.

Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

From entryway facing towards the dining room. This is our living room after staging. Most things belong to us and a stager added some finishing touches. She also gave us some advice about rearranging our living room furniture, which really opened up the room.

The Port of Tacoma opened the Dick Gilmur Shoreline Restoration and Kayak Launch in June 2011 on the east side of Commencement Bay.
With parallel parking for four vehicles along Marine View Drive, the habitat and kayak launch offers another access point to appreciate the beauty of our region and the jobs that help sustain it.
A loudspeaker mounted up high in King William Street in the middle of the city. It is lovely to see green foliage en masse.
Park 90 Theatre, Finsbury Park is the studio space and has loose chairs to enable a multitude of staging options. Both auditoria feature silent air-conditioning.

I awoke early this morning to go to the staging area of the parade that heralds the beginning of the Bayou Black Open Rodeo in Louisiana. The morning sun was still casting long shadows when I met Eugene Reynolds. Eugene is a member of the Cherokee Riders from Lake Providence Louisiana, and he had plans to ride his Tennessee Walker, Boogie, in the parade.
The dew was still on the grass though, and Eugene had work to do. Eugene is a fifth generation farrier and horseshoer. As I watched Eugene bend horseshoes on an anvil with a deftly wielded hammer, he told me his father is still an active farrier as well.
The heritage of the blacksmith is preserved with horseshoing. While the horseshoer is essentially an equine manicurist, each horse and indeed each hoof is unique. The steel shoe must be bent and altered to fit each hoof, but only after the hoof is cut to the proper angle, length and the foot is cared for. The entire weight of the horse rides on the hoof. A poorly done job can disable the animal. I learned that different horseshoes exist for different purposes, much the same as human shoes. More significantly, the tolerances for a properly placed nail in a horseshoe is about 1/60,000 of an inch.
Eugene had a que of customers waiting. As he patiently backed up to each horse and tapped it's ankle to convince the animal to shift it's weight and allow him to place it's foot between his leather bound legs, I was amazed at the ease with which he worked, and the trust a spirited horse places in the farrier to do the job right. Thank you Eugene, for allowing me to photograph you working, and for posing with Boogie.

This is a photograph from the Ringtown GAA Club Half Marathon and 10KM Road Races, fun runs, and walks which were held in Whitehall, Castlepollard, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Easter Monday (April 21st 2014) at 11:15 and 11:30 respectively. Ringtown GAA club is situated in Whitehall which is on the R394 between Mullingar and Castlepollard. The GAA club is shown here on Google Streetview [goo.gl/maps/UI9tD]. The half marathon started outside the GAA club. The 10KM race started about 1KM away from the start/finish area. Both races shared the same route. The race event was also a fundraiser for the charity TEAM (Temporary Emergency Accomodation Mullingar) which provides emergency accomodation for women and children of the midlands who are subject of domestic and sexual violence. They are located at Teach Fáilte, Green Road, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath.

The half marathon started at the GAA club. The main loop of 6 miles started here and proceeded around some beautiful rural back roads with major turns at [goo.gl/maps/8Iw9S], [goo.gl/maps/in6yE], and goo.gl/maps/JJzwM before joining up with the R394 and Castlepollard and returning back to Ringtown/Whitehall.
This was the GAA club's first attempt at staging a running event and the overwhelming reaction of participants was that it went perfectly. There was a team of Motorcycle outriders and Gardai who expertly controlled traffic flow (particularly along the very busy R394) and made for very safe running conditions for all participants. There was a wonderful selection of refreshments provided afterwards and maybe people were able to sit out in the sun and enjoy a well earned rest after the race. Shower facilities were provided in the GAA club.

Exercise Reception, Staging, Onward movement, and Integration / Foal Eagle 2007 (RSO&I/FE 07) is an annual joint/combined command post exercise / field training exercise. The purpose of the exercise is to demonstrate resolve to support the Republic of Korea (ROK) against external aggression while improving ROK/U.S. combat readiness and joint / combined interoperability. The focus of the exercise is on strategic, operational and tactical aspects of general military operations in the Korean theater of operations.

Berri.
A staging point on the river bank was established at Berri once the paddle steamers started using the river after 1854. Wood was felled in the district and supplied to the hungry steam engines. The actual township of Berri was not established until 1910 as a government irrigation settlement area growing mainly stone fruit and vines like other river settlement areas. Thus by 1918 a distillery had been established and Berri was producing spirits. The distillery became a cooperative business in 1922. It still operates today as Berri Estates Winery and is thought to be the largest winery in Australia. It has been a private company and not a cooperative for many years. Renmano group took it over in 1982; then they were taken over by the Hardy group of companies in 1992. The winery is the largest employer in the district.
The Berri area was originally part of Cobdogla Station run by John Chambers. The government resumed land from the station leasehold to establish the irrigation area here. Surveying work was led by Mr E Loveday, who gave his name to the settlement area near Barmera. The name Berri was adapted from a local Aboriginal word beri-beri which meant ‘wide bend in the river’. Although the town was started in 1911 after the survey it did not progress much until around 1920 with an influx of soldier settlers in the outlying districts. Nearby Glossop was named after Vice Admiral Glossop, Commander of the HMAS Sydney during World War I when it sank the German ship the Emden; and Monash was named after Sir John Monash, (of German Jewish background) who became an Australian general during World War One. He was a most distinguished general and during the 1920s he was regarded as the greatest living Australian. General Monash led Australian armed forces in Egypt and France. A number of the older buildings in Berri date from around 1920 as the town started to boom. The Methodist Church was opened in 1919; the Catholic Church in 1920; the Berri Riverside Hotel began in 1921 etc. The railway arrived in Berri from Paringa and Renmark in 1928. The first big pumping station at Berri was started in 1913. The new bridge across the Murray at Berri, replacing the former ferry service was opened in July 1997 by Premier John Olsen. Beneath the bridge is an excellent Aboriginal dreaming mural.
