3 Earth movers are staged and awaiting work at the Kellogg / Webb interchange construction in Wichita, KS
This little group of sandhill cranes was part of a larger flock, or sedge, of several hundred in a farm field on the edge of White River Marsh State Wildlife Area west of Berlin, Green Lake County, Wisconsin. I think that most of the cranes are now gone.

Creatively staging a property for sale is definetely a form of artwork, this arrangement of furniture and colours took ages and numerous visits to get just right.

Driving on a country road in east central Minnesota, I stopped to take a photo of what I thought was a small flock of geese flying towards me. But the unmistakable gravelly sound of sand cranes soon filled the air. There were hundreds flying, circling and landing on a crest of a small rise in a picked corn field. Soon they will leave en masse for warmer climates.
As the rain comes down, CF4412, VL362, CF4411 & VL355 sit in the staging roads at Enfield waiting for their path north to Werris Creek. Thursday, 4th November 2021.

I went out to the Fraesfield Trailhead to scout for sunrise locations. Leaving my house the sky was mostly clear so I figured this was going to be mostly hiking and not much photography so I left my tripod at home. As I hit Happy Valley Road and crossed over the mountains the clouds were rolling in over the Superstitions and the Salt River. Made me regret not bringing my tripod.
I found some spots on the Whiskey Bottle Trail for sunrises. I'm going to scout the Granite Mountain Trailhead. So far I still like the spot on the Marcus Landslide Trail.
I stopped at the Brown's Ranch Trailhead to scout for sunset spots. Some potential.

Offering access to a variety of easy to moderate scenic trails in the Preserve’s northern area, this trailhead provides plenty of parking for hikers and mountain bikers, as well as an equestrian staging area.

The Whiskey Bottle Trail is a new trail in the expanded northern section of the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. The trail starts at the Fraesfield Trailhead and heads northwest across the northeast side of Fraesfield Mountain and terminates at Powerline Road #2. From there, you can go back the way you came, or continue throughout the system of trails making a larger loop back to the Fraesfield Trailhead.
The bank, cliff, rough-winged and tree swallows have start to amass in large numbers. It's an amazing sight and sound but makes me a bit sad as it is one of the first indicators that summer is on its way out.
A group of starlings approaching Brighton's West Pier at sunset. Many of them appear to use the ruins of the West Pier as a stopping off point on their way to join the main gathering at the Palace Pier.

At Freeway 5/710 intersection, rail consolidation facility, SoCal. Shot while driving south on 710 Freeway. Totally stop and go traffic. Slow. Perfect picture taking conditions. No cars were intersected while shooting! ; > )
Essexville coal empties E945 are parked on the main at Fox awaiting a new crew to take them on to Chicago. Fox was a spot where west-bound trains on the Plymouth Sub would often either die on HOS, or be staged since it was one of the longer sidings and there were no crossings that would be blocked. Recrews became so common at Fox that CSX even installed a staircase (yellow, at left) for crews to easier climb up and down the steep fill. Pairs of SD70MACs were still the norm on these trains back then, but the influx of thousands of new ES44ACs and SD70ACes over the coming years would change that quickly.

Normally, a train leaving Houston for Arizona would be going west out of town. However, this train is heading north up the West Belt. At times when Englewood is plugged but there aren't crews to take a train out on the road, a dogcatch crew will drag a train out to stage it for later, in this case taking the train up to Pierce Yard off the East Belt.
For this train, it would sit at Pierce for almost 3 days as the power was stolen for another train a few hours after tying this one down.

Je choisis mon arrière-plan. J'attends que mon sujet se place où je veux et là, je prends la photo.
I choose my background. I wait for my subject to be placed where I want and there, I take the photo.
This Robin had decided to use the swingball set as a convenient stopping point on its regular flights across the garden. Earley, Reading, Berkshire, UK.
We came across this interesting tree at Laguna Beach with many pigeons resting on top. They flew in and out constantly to look for left over food on the beach. I saw people walk past cautiously with their hands covering their heads. That's something I don't see very often.
