On Tuesday, June 16, 2020, I took this photo of the Hong Kong-registered freighter Pilatus Venture anchored near Stanley Park. Then, to my surprise, I read that about 9:15 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2020, the ship had issued emergency calls about a man going overboard!!

Vancouver's Bloedel Conservatory's 6-foot-1 Titan arum (Amorphophallus titanum), more commonly called the Corpse flower, a rare flower that stinks like rotting meat, opened on Wednesday, [August 18, 2021] beginning its brief, infrequent bloom. [...].
"After just one or two days, the spathe will close and the bloom will begin to collapse into dormancy once again." [...].

Corpse Smell
The strong odor of rotting meat that the flower emits increases gradually from sundown to the middle of the night. This is when the pollinators are most active, and these include flesh flies that then go away as morning approaches.
