This is an urban housing scheme located in Glasgow that exploits the benefits of generational dependency. From birth to death, society facilitates mixed- age urban environments that aim to incubate meaningful community participation. The general use of time not spent in mainstream education or work is often labelled as ‘leisure’. Productivity through social interaction within the urban realm is often undervalued and restricted to hours of ‘leisure’.With an increasing proportion of the population reaching retirement age in a good state of health, in broad terms the Young-Old are at once largely free from responsibilities of education, employment, child care and at the same time unconstrained by most of the physical and mental impediments de ning traditional old age.
