I used a technique I learned ages ago where you mount one lens on the camera, then mount another lens face-to-face on the end of the first lens. In this instance, I used my Canon 50mm f/1.8 on the camera. I have an old threaded metal lens shade that I screwed on the first lens. Then, I screwed the face of an old Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 into the open portion of the shade. About the only way you can focus this is to lean toward or away from your subject until it's in focus. If you have two lenses, it's an easy way to get in close. I suppose you could even hand-hold one lens in front of the other, kind of like a magnifying glass. The DOF is super short.

A stinkbug, I think, feasts on a dead housefly in my backyard. This is a two shot focus stack., edited in Photoshop, Nik Color Efex Pro, and Lightroom.
So this is what happens when a bug moves even slightly when you are doing a focus stack... As you can see his body is fine, but his head was looking around and antenna were moving, so slightly that I didn't even realize it until I combined the pictures and go this result :(.

My parents in law have a water tank in the garden in which they collect rainwater for watering the garden. It's standing on two stacking pallets. This is the middle part of the lower one.

MEASUREMENTS: stacked pendant of 19mm round bead, 2x15mm disk bead, and a 8x13mm rondelle bead on a fine silver lampwork headpin, and a 19x6mm ring bail with a 10mm inner diameter.

As title say this is an ugly (and small at ~ 2.5 mm) aphid. It looks quite strange to me.
I've used an El-Nikkor 50/2.8 N objective at around 5X magnification for this image. There were 45 natural light exposures at ISO 200, f4. Condition were not the best: windy and very bright sun in front of the subject. So I used an improvised diffuser for improving the lighting a little bit .
This was the only time I've used the El-Nikkor in the field. The short working distance and my lack of experience when using objectives with smaller focal length at that time made me not using it in the field again. I've sold it after a couple of months.
