You saw him here, you saw him there, you saw him everywhere, that lovable bearded Scarlet figure called St. Nick. All the boys and girls will have to wait until next Christmas and be good until then if they want to be on his list.
I post this today in memory of my Father whose birthday would have been today; he died many years ago but I always think of him at this time of year.

I had the fun experience of visiting with Santa, off-season! I met him at Yankee Candle's main store in South Deerfield, Massachusetts, USA on March 7, 2015. Not surprisingly, he's a really nice guy! My good friend, Lynn, took this picture.

There is something about being on Santa's naughty list that is so exciting. Especially if St. Nick comes around for a visit and a wee bit of a chat. Owen often reminds me around this time of the year of the benefits of "being me" and "being on this list." I have to say, even coal under intense pressure sometimes yields the brightest of diamonds. Smiling, got to love this time of the year.

Santa Claus poses with some of his friends at Santa's Workshop, an amusement park located in North Pole, New York. The group is gathered around an imitation North Pole--the white base of the pole is visible to the left of Santa's boots, and the "North Pole" sign at the top is partially hidden behind Santa's cap.

So...I took this back in April as my wife and I were flying to Hawaii but thought today might be the right time to revisit this specific photo. My guess is that S.C. was making a test run in the off-season to check out some new technology that the elves added to the sleigh so there were no glitches on Christmas Eve. I hope all went well or the bugs were worked out by now because the countdown is down to hours & minutes before take-off. Godspeed St. Nick...may all your travels be merry & bright!!

Taken in the grounds of Our Lady and Saint Nicholas Church, Liverpool ! The grounds, though small, are maintained by Liverpool City Council in much the same way as Public Parks and Open Spaces ! Great job they do too !
it' s the same place I had some of my camera equipment stolen last year, never put me off, it just taught me to be more careful !
Every year, at about this time, I get to ride along with Santa and the crew to check out his latest red machine the elves meticulously prepared during summer months. I must say this year's model has a lot more deer power under the hood, it's a rocket ship, this thing flies. We always do a trial run in Stealth Mode before the big day so that Santa doesn't have any surprises en route, he's way too busy meeting all the kids, delivering presents.
The crew installed a whole lot'a new stuff this year. They added a tuned quad-exhaust and upgraded the stereo to 7.1, complete with Bluetooth headsets, WiFi plus video calling via skype, cool. They strapped on a new supercharger and connected a bunch of other electronic goodies which put a huge smile on the big guy's face. He too loves toys. He's really just a big kid at heart.
Anyway, when we left Toronto, we circled the CN Tower a couple of times and headed out over the lake, straight to the Big Apple. We were there in no time. After a few loops ‘round Lady Liberty, we flew out over the Atlantic. Next stop; London. We dropped in to visit Big Ben for a cup'a. Nice chap. Always good to see the ol' man. After that, it was on to Paris, Moscow, Berlin, Rome, Budapest, Cairo, Hong Kong, Tokyo, you get the idea. We visit every city, village, town and country and if I didn't mention yours, I apologize, the list is endless.
And great big special thanks to the elves responsible for designing, engineering and fabricating this mechanical wonder each year, they call themselves; “The munchelfkins Pit Crew”. I'm not sure why they picked that name, but hey, it's their team, they can name it anything they want. They are, after all, the number one pit crew on this planet and deserve the right to be recognized in any way they want. In their history of serving the big guy, they’ve won many inter-galactic championships, received countless awards for their expertise and had only one minor mechanical issue which did not in any way prevent or interfere with Santa's Christmas mission.
So here’s a big bravo to the munchelfkins. Great job, you've really outdone yours'elves. ha!

The Feast of St. Nicholas is celebrated in parts of Europe on 6 December. On the preceding evening of 5 December, Krampus Night or Krampusnacht, the wicked hairy devil appears on the streets. Sometimes accompanying St. Nicholas and sometimes on his own, Krampus visits homes and businesses. The Saint usually appears in the Eastern Rite vestments of a bishop, and he carries a golden ceremonial staff. Unlike North American versions of Santa Claus, in these celebrations Saint Nicholas concerns himself only with the good children, while Krampus is responsible for the bad. Nicholas dispenses gifts, while Krampus supplies coal and the ruten bundles.

St. Nicholas Church, Demre
St. Nicholas Church is an ancient Byzantine Church located in modern-day town of Demre Antalya Province, (Southwest Turkey). Its usage is dated between 5th-12th centuries. It is most notable for being the burial place of St. Nicholas of Myra, who was the Eastern Orthodox bishop of the ancient city of Myra in the 4th century, and is an important religious figure for Eastern Orthodox Christians.
There are fine marble mosaic pavements (opus sectile) and faded wall paintings throughout the church.
The Church of St. Nicholas is only used for religious services one day each year: the Feast of St. Nicholas on December 6. The ecumenical celebrations begin with a Greek Orthodox Divine Liturgy celebrated by the Metropolitan of Myra, who lives in Istanbul. Next is a service in which Orthodox, Catholic and Protestant clergy participate. The Cardinal Archbishop of Bari, where the saint's relics are now, is also represented.
After his death, Nicholas became the patron saint of sailors and seafarers, and many pilgrims came to visit his tomb. Over the centuries, the legends and great popularity of St. Nicholas of Myra led to the Christmastime figure of the bearded man who secretly brings toys to children. He is still known as St. Nick in most of Europe (and he brings his gifts on December 6, not Christmas)

Liverpool ‘Blitz’ Memorial
The thousands of Liverpool civilians killed by German bombers during World War II received a fitting tribute in their honour when Tom Murphy designed his sculpture for the Liverpool Blitz Memorial.
The final sculpture was cast in bronze and sited on the grounds of St Nicolas Church near the Pier Head. The poignant statue features a mother with babe in arms, beckoning her playful son to leave his toy plane and seek shelter from the bombs.
He said: “Around 4,000 civilians were killed and 10,000 injured, during the Second World War in Liverpool – which was the most bombed provincial city in the country.
“That death toll was the terrible price
paid by the ordinary men, women and children because of Liverpool’s role in the Battle of the Atlantic.

Liverpool
Following on from the previous upload, this shot is take from the main aisle of the church this time looking east. The organ pipes are situated above three glass screens, these screens of etched glass work separate the main area of the church from the narthex, and are built into the arches which are just visible.
The organ was built in 1952 by Rushworth & Dreaper Ltd of Liverpool, it is dedicated to the memory of Charles W. Bridson, organist at the Parish Church between 1902-1949.
