A farewell shot for a few days.
And what better way than with a departing otter.

Many thanks to all those who take the time to comment on my photos. It is truly appreciated.
Short break from Suffolk, have been out on the local patch too, so here's some of what I've been seeing...
Yup, found a nesting pair, so be prepared for quite a few of these! (GSW's were where I really started to learn my way round my first DSLR and got the birding / nature back because of it / them!)

So here is my Snipe photograph being used as the backdrop to tonight's Springwatch, and also you can see the same photo on the cue cards in Michaela's hand (though with a slight purplish colour cast).
The Springwatch team invited me up to Ynys Hir for a couple of days to have a look around behind the scenes, meet the crew, etc. I had a great time there. I went for a wander around the reserve on the first afternoon, but didn't get very far at all before finding this perched in a tree. I believe it's the first time the RSPB warden had heard of one there, although it's thought it was just taking a rest on its way to somewhere else. It is a target species for the reserve though, so hopefully more will be seen there in the future. I've seen Nightjar many times at night, but this was the first time I'd been lucky enough to find one in daylight, and been able to enjoy it without being marauded by midges!
I expect the iPlayer link to the episode I was on will expire eventually, but they've now added the film itself to the clips page too.

First sighting 2017!
This pretty butterfly is pretty much only found on the south coast of the Isle of Wight in the UK. I was pleased to see over 20+ individuals today.
Lesser celandine (Ficaria verna / Ranunculus ficaria), A low-growing, hairless perennial plant, with fleshy dark green, heart-shaped leaves. It is more commonly reported to flower from March until May, and is sometimes called the "spring messenger" as a consequence.

For a second year my Badger shot is being used for the 'Watch LIVE' link on the BBC's Springwatch Home page and also on their Facebook and Twitter page as a link to the CBBC 'Animals of Spring' quiz.
