The Dodson House, built in 1894, is significant for its association with persons who played important roles in both the social & economic development of the small West Tennessee town of Humboldt. The house is an excellent example of Queen Anne architecture and is located in the older residential neighborhood of the town.
W.H. Dodson, a Humboldt banker, organized and established the Haywood County Bank in Brownsville, Tennessee in 1889. His son, William, was duly elected assistant cashier of the financial institution. William remained with the bank until the fall of 1892 when he moved to Humboldt and established a real estate company. In February 1893, William Dodson purchased a town lot from W.N. Bennett for the amount of eight hundred dollars. Early in 1894, he began to oversee the construction of this Queen Anne style residence which was completed by that fall.
After William Dodson's death in 1904, his son George moved from Knoxville to Humboldt and practiced law in Humboldt for four years before purchasing the Ford automobile dealership. In 1931 William Hooper, grandson of William Dodson, moved into the family home after graduation from Vanderbilt University. He soon became associated with Dodson Ford dealership and in 1950 he purchased all rights to the dealership. Mr. Hooper was active in community affairs and served on the Humboldt Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the West Tennessee Strawberry Festival Board, and the Ford Dealer Council Board (Memphis District).
Architecturally, the Dodson House is a good example of the Queen Anne style residence. Although the interior of the house was altered by the Hooper family, much of the original fabric was retained. The present owners, who purchased the house in 1980, are restoring the interior and plans have been developed for the restoration of the exterior. For these reasons, this house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 25, 1982. All of the information above was found on the original documents submitted for listing consideration and can be viewed here:

De vierhonderd bomen in het prachtige Kersenbloesempark in het Amsterdamse Bos beginnen langzaam te bloeien. Het duurt nog een week of twee voor ze zullen exploderen in duizenden tinten wit en roze. Echter, als je goed zoekt, kun je nu al aardig wat bloemen vinden in de bomen. Ik kan niet wachten om weer in het Park te picknicken. Elke lente is dit mijns inziens een paar dagen lang de mooiste plek van Nederland.
Cherry Blossom
The four hundred trees in the beautiful Cherry Blossom Park in the Amsterdam Forest are slowly beginning to blossom. It'll be a week or two before they will all explode into a thousand shades of white and pink. If you look carefully, though, you can find quite some flowers in the trees already. I can't wait to picknick in the Park once again. For a few days each Spring, this is arguably the most beautiful place in the Netherlands.
Down Under Challenge.
I added the complete farm scene and the ducks in the pond. I also did a Simplify Edit in Topaz to give it a slight blended look.

"A single crocus blossom ought to be enough to convince our heart that springtime, no matter how predictable, is somehow a gift, gratuitous, gratis, a grace."

Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it.His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.” So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”

These little native bees are so tiny - around the size of a small house fly. When I first saw them a while back I did think that they were flies, but on uploading the photo saw that they were indeed little bees.

These are the buds of big leaf maples which I think are just as pretty as other spring blooms.I think its so funny that fairly often when I'm taking pictures here, people stop and ask what I"m looking at as if every tree has an eagle or something. Sometimes I show them the screen and they look at the tree, in this case, and say that they never noticed these buds before, and my job here is done, :-))!
On that note, I'm off to see the Wizard and he has a knife. I'll be away from Flickr for awhile, so please don't post too much while I'm gone or I'll never catch up! Just kidding, looking forward to seeing what you're seeing and as always,I appreciate your visit.s and comments.
it's mating season for the squirrels here now ... within the next 2 months I should see some little ones running around ...

Goodbye my winter suit,.........................On Explore#317........................View On Black
Goodbye my hat and boot,
Goodbye my ear-protecting muffs
And storms that hail and hoot.
Good-bye, snow! Good-bye, ice!
Though of course you're very nice,
I am glad you've gone away
Leaving us this fine spring day.
Here's my good old bat and ball!
Marbles, too! How are you all?
I am sure that I can play
With you now, 'most any day.
Good-bye, winter! Though it's true
I've had lots of fun with you,
Now I just could shout and sing;
I'm so glad because it's spring!
Farewell to snow and sleet,
Farewell to Cream of Wheat,
Farewell to ice-removing salt
And slush around my feet.
Right on to daffodils,
Right on to whippoorwills,
Right on to chirp-producing eggs
And baby birds and quills.
The day is on the wing,
The kite is on the string,
The sun is where the sun should be -
It's spring all right! It's spring!
... As well as the trees!
While it's been pretty cool here, there is surely evidence that spring is on the way! Enjoy!
It's National Wattle Day here in Australia. September 1st marked as a special day to celebrate these plants, their glorious flowers and to ponder how lucky we are to call this country home.
The golden wattle (Acacia pycnantha) is Australia’s national floral emblem. It's a symbol of our country, our national colours that our sporting teams proudly display and it represents us all and what it means to be Australian.
These beautiful plants represent the coming of spring and resilience, given that they are able to withstand bushfires and drought.
Wattle (plants within genus Acacia), have bloomed across this land for over 30 million years. There are currently around 1000 different species of wattle, 900 or so of which are solely found in this country. A huge percentage.
I am not sure which species of wattle I came upon here.

durchs Fenster die blühende Hainbuche im Garten......
through the window the blooming hornbeam in the garden....
listen:
Spring is here! Why doesn't my heart go dancing?
Spring is here! Why isn't the waltz entrancing?
No desire, no ambition leads me
Maybe it's because nobody needs me
Spring is here! Why doesn't the breeze delight me?
Stars appear, why doesn't the night invite me?
Maybe it's because nobody loves me
Spring is here I hear...............
The queen butterfly is a marvel of nature, showcasing a blend of beauty and resilience. Found across various continents, they thrive in diverse habitats, from tropical regions to temperate zones. ‧ The queen butterfly is part of a closely-knit genus that includes the monarch and soldier butterflies, sharing many morphological and ecological traits.
‧ Contrary to previous beliefs, the queen butterfly does not share a biological connection with the plain tiger species.
‧ Their diet, primarily milkweed, renders them distasteful to predators like birds, providing a natural defense mechanism.
‧ There are seven recognized subspecies of the queen butterfly, each adapted to specific geographical and ecological niches.

We are home from the Central Coast. Peter's Dad is now in his room at the nursing home and beginning to settle in (under sufference at this stage). It is a big move for him, but as my sister in law says, it is the beginning of a new chapter in his life.
As most of my recent pictures, I took this one with my iPhone on a late afternoon walk. Short walks are still allowed in Switzerland despite many anti-corona measures in place!
Afterwards, I edited the photo (especially cropping).
Thank you for your visits / comments / faves!
These are some more photos one of the little Jenny Wrens that were hopping around our friends' garden. She must have been attracted to the little yellow flowers as she stayed there for a few photos.
I'm SO excited that "spring" is in the air. I've missed all the beautiful colors and flowers the last several months.
I'm feeling a little frustrated and overwhelmed though. After working with my Sony Cyber Shot (point and shoot) my new Canon XSi has proven to be more of a challenge to me. I've only worked with it for two days however all the newness has left me feeling like I've started all over again!
So please be patient and understanding with me as I experiment! :-)
There's been a shift in the weather these past couple days. Other than the obvious warmth of the sunshine and the sound of dripping water as the snow and ice starts to melt, you can just feel the change.
Stepping outside feels welcome; the wind hasn't been biting and the temperature is almost to a point where a layer could be left behind.
I'm not so optimistic as to believe we're completely free of winter yet, but I really have been enjoying this shift.
Won't be long now before the snow is replaced with something a little lusher.
Hope everyone has had a good day.

And that's the day I knew there was this entire life behind things, and... this incredibly benevolent force, that wanted me to know there was no reason to be afraid, ever...
... Sometimes there's so much beauty in the world I feel like I can't take it, like my heart's going to cave in.
One of my favorite quotes from American Beauty. I believe it fits this scene and my feelings about it. There is just so much beauty in the world right there in front of us everyday if we just open our eyes to it. From the ordinary to the extraordinary, unfathomable wonders are right there in front of your nose. Don't shut it out. Don't let it pass you by as if you didn't care. Look closer.
This is just an industrial park retention pond behind my apartment. Nothing out of the ordinary. But look what it becomes!
