Springfield has its share of odd sights along the road. You might bump into an old, damaged green elephant advertising a defunct record store, a pink elephant with a giant martini, or even a 30-foot tall statue of young Abe Lincoln at the state fair grounds. Public Square was platted in 1823, and it remains the heart of the City of Springfield. The Old State Capitol, along with the Lincoln-Herndon Law Offices and numerous other historic buildings surround the square.
