Toulouse the cat sits atop "Pincer" by the Kansas City artist STRETCH. The sculpture was purchased with funds donated by Mary Jo Springe, an active supporter of the Carnegie Arts Center, in 2001. The sculpture is at the center of the Centennial Walkway at the Carnegie Arts Center in Leavenworth, Kansas.

I hate to see these old stores go. Forty years ago, this was a
thriving operation; the inshore fishery was healthy and fishermen
needed buildings like this every day of the year. Thirty years ago,
the inshore fishery basically ended and buildings like this weren't
needed anymore. The owner of a much smaller store just to the right
of this one burned his down a year ago -- he was afraid it would
settle into itself (like this one) and become a hazard. Perhaps
that's what the owner of this one will do yet. But the weather's got
its eye on it. And the tides. This was a springe low tide, at the full
moon a couple of weeks ago, and the springe high tide in another month
might take it down, or a storm at the springes with the wind out of
the southwest.
