It’s spring, but this year the winds have been relentless—blowing from the north or east, sharp and cold. Generation Z craves spring, warmth, closeness, and the chance to feel carefree. But their shoulders are heavy, and now there’s talk that the AMOC is weakening, and the weather in Northern Europe is turning rapidly colder. Another burden for Gen-Z to carry, on top of all the neglect left by their parents’ generation: polluted waterways, undrinkable water, and the earth itself choked with plastic. Microplastics are everywhere—inside fish, vegetables, the soil, and probably inside me too. What we need is closeness, warmth, and someone to talk to about everything, without feeling stupid or alone.

Captured just after a gentle rain, this delicate peony unfolds in layers of pale pink and cream. A quiet favorite from the season.
