Views of Calvary Church and Churchyard in monochrome formats as photographed in early Spring of 2012.
Calvary Church, built in 1859 and consecrated after the end of the Civil War, is one of the finest antebellum churches in North Carolina. Its Churchyard is a botantical and horticultural masterpiece featuring fine pre-Civil War and Victorian tombstone art.
This image won't stand up to close scrutiny as it's a crop from a very much larger image. The bee was shot with my 300mm lens from a good distance away. I've been playing around with the focus tracking on this new camera and have come to the surprising conclusion that it's as good as the 1D Mark IV.

Springtime
by: Dollie Radford (1858-1920)
In the distant woods are blowing
Tender buds and blossoms sweet,
Fragrant leaves and grasses glowing
From the touch of fairy feet.
In the woods a spirit singing
Stays and touches every tree,
And to loving branches clinging
Flowers open tremblingly.

Here's a shot I wish would have come out better. The Indian Paintbrush in the FG looks much too soft to me. I was moving a little too fast and kind of blew the shot.
But I wanted to post this anyway to show the salmon color of this particular Indian Paintbrush plant. Out of ALL the paintbrush I saw up there this was the ONLY one of this color. Very cool!!!
Well now that I know this maybe next time I'll bring it into focus.

A storm blew through leaving a trail of devastation across the state of Iowa. We were fortunate with only rain and high winds. My Irises took a beating, lost some, trampled down a few that I cut and brought inside, closed up a few but opened a few more! I find beauty in all the stages that a flower takes from bud, to flower, back to bud, to dying. Behold life and death in a cycle thru Mother Nature.
