Tomorrow marks the Spring Equinox, the point of balance between light and dark. From now, until the Autumn Equinox, the hours of daylight will outnumber those of darkness. Lots of fun ’moss-wrangling‘ for this shot!

Spring Equinox 2019 Deering Estate

Sunday, March 20th marks the vernal equinox this year and the start of spring proper. Amazingly, this year, the weather's turned beautiful here in the UK- it's lovely to see the sun shining after months of dreary winter. The garden's full of daffodils in full bloom so there are plenty to pick. Home made 'Tiffin' is a delicious accompaniment to coffee - a non-baked blend of chocolate, butter, golden syrup, digestive biscuits and a variety of different dried fruits.

The March 20th 2017 Spring Equinox heralds the start of the astrological new year and the start of a new season.

In the Northern Hemisphere, the March Equinox represents the starting of Spring and a time where the energies of new birth and creativity are at their highest.

A low-growing wild flower manages to develop at the Trikala Fortress, Greece despite this long winter’s harsh conditions, bitterly cold weather and repeated snowfalls even in late March. This flower is a witness testifying that the season of Spring has finally arrived, at long last.

After all, the vernal equinox occurs today, on March 20, 2022 at 17:35’ hrs local time (15:35’ UTC/GMT). Let us enjoy the promise of hope that Spring carries 💐

First bee of the year

According to legend, you can balance an egg on end on the vernal equinox. And you can! Of course, you can balance an egg any other day, too. But I can't help myself on the vernal equinox, and must do it. Yes, I may have a problem. Don't judge me.

So finally, after a long dark winter, the light is back.

Today it’s spring equinox, and the first little flowers are showing its appreciation for the light and warmth.

It is a day to celebrate!

And don’t forget, from tomorrow there is more light than dark….

I guess I have millions (well…. not quite, but almost…) of images of hepaticas, but for me, the are never getting boring.

I hope you love’em too

Dear friends, happy Norooz, happy Spring, happy New Year! Wish you all the best!

In harmony with rebirth of nature, the Persian New Year Celebration, or Norooz, always begins on the first day of spring, March 20th of each year. Norooz ceremonies are symbolic representations of two ancient concepts - the End and Rebirth. About 3000 years ago Persian's major religion was Zoroastrianism, named in honor of its founder Zoroaster, and arguably the world's first monotheistic religion. Zoroastrians had a festival called "Farvardgan" which lasted ten days, and took place at the end of the solar year. It appears that this was a festival of sorrow and mourning , signifying the end of life while the festival of Norooz, at the beginning of spring signified rebirth, and was a time of great joy and celebration. Norooz was officially acknowledged and named "Norooz" by mythical Persian emperor, Shah Jamshid, from Achaemenid Dynasty (500 BC). Ashaemenied created the first major empire in the region and built Persepolis complex (Takhte Jamshid) in the city of Shiraz. Norooz in Persian means "New Day" and brings hope, peace and prosperity to the world and has been celebrated among people regardless of ethnic background, political views or religion in many countries around the globe such as Iran, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Georgia, Iraq, Tajikistan, Syria ,Armenia and India. Some of the activities during Norooz are Spring cleaning, buying new cloths, painting eggs, family reunion, giving presents, visiting neighbors and friends and celebrating by having a picnic on the 13th day of Spring. Happy Norooz!
