I wouldn't be a good "Texan" if I didn't post an image of our state flower..:)
Bluebonnets have been loved since man first trod the vast prairies of Texas. Indians wove fascinating folk tales around them. The early-day Spanish priests gathered the seeds and grew them around their missions. This practice gave rise to the myth that the padres had brought the plant from Spain, but this cannot be true since the two predominant species of bluebonnets are found growing naturally only in Texas and at no other location in the world.
As historian Jack Maguire so aptly wrote, "It's not only the state flower but also a kind of floral trademark almost as well known to outsiders as cowboy boots and the Stetson hat." He goes on to affirm that "The bluebonnet is to Texas what the shamrock is to Ireland, the cherry blossom to Japan, the lily to France, the rose to England and the tulip to Holland."
I made my first visit to Hepburn Heights Conservation Area. It was beautiful and quiet natural reserve. The spring flowers were only just starting to appear.
This is an image of a Grass Tree (Xanthorea) and a flowering spike. The spike was about 3 m tall.
On April 30th, the UK media predicted the driest May on record and warned we may have a spring drout.... Today, the UK media began talking of the coldest May on record :(

So finally Spring came during the last weekend but iy only lasted the time to take few shots. We are going to have a rainy week, but this is great for me, since I have to study for my Construction exam, until friday (and I must say that this preparation is really freaking me out!).

Mammoth Hot Spring is a large complex of hot springs on a hill of travertine in Yellowtone National Park. It was created over thousands of years as hot water from the spring cooled and deposited calcium cabonate. Travertine flourishes because of the huge amount of geothermal vents.

April...was a strange mix of snow showers, frosts, chilly mornings, but also some lovely warm sunny days...here we are in early May...cold, wet...if it wasn't for the spring flowers in the garden you'd think it was late autumn!

Squill (Scilla siberica) is a spring ephemeral, emerging early and blooming right after the snow melts. It is a hardy plant and cold tolerant, and it has historically been a favorite of gardeners for its striking blue flowers. Unfortunately, squill naturalizes quite easily, spreading quickly by self-seeding and bulb offshoots. Because of its rapid spread and condition tolerance, this non-native species has the potential to become an invasive plant.
I worried about the horses, the cattle, most mostly the tiny calves with little protection from a nasty spring storm.
Just a little video project I created during the last weeks. I tried to make a little movie that shows how sad winter changes into happy colourful spring. Hope you like it.

Beautiful flowers here in the Amsterdam forest. The wild Garlic is blooming everywhere on the forest floor. These yellow flowers were perfect as a foreground although difficult to shoot given movement when making a focus stack. In the end when there was no wind for a short moment I succeeded to make this shot. Really happy with it.

On our Sunday drive, Don and I came across this bizarre sight at the end of a dirt road up in the mountains of Rider Hollow. Apparently a weekender planted some saplings in a small fenced area to protect them from deer. Our guess is he must have thought spring was here to stay, put a sprinkler on a timer, then went home to the city perhaps a week or so ago.
Although the early morning temperature yesterday was 11 F, the sprinkler gamely did its job, continuing to spew water onto the rising ice columns.
