On board the Star of India, the students were split into two groups, one went on a tour of the Soviet Submarine and the USS Dolphin Submarine, while the other group was given ropes, pulleys, net and were challenged to raise and lower the cargo barrel together. The first group was successful and was able to accomplish it within 30 mins. The second group never did accomplish it.
This was a test in group communications and teamwork. Once the barrel was ready to be hoisted the students had to rely on hand signals only to raise and lower and stop the barrel.
