This was just a plane window shot taken while I was leaving. Such a beautiful country.

Drone shots of Split, Croatia in the summer of 2024

A split second out and it would of looked like a doubleheaded 91 train.

Having worked out that 91101 'Flying Scotsman' would be at the rear of the 1430 from Waverley, we were nearly bowled over by 91129 heading north as they pass at Grantshouse.

91101 is at the rear of 1E19, 1430 Edinburgh - Kings Cross, hauled by 82208 as 91129 passes with 1S13, 1100 Kings Cross - Edinburgh.

Seen on an overcast afternoon at 1456 on the 1st August 2016, just a pity the sun wasn't out for this shot !

Lovely split-rail fence with supports on the border of Monmouth Battlefield. I didn't even notice the pretty little Eastern bluebird halfway down the line.

Scanned from another dire Kodak 35mm Transparency taken with a Zenith E using a pre-set Soligor 200mm lens

I had some weird issue with that camera combination which put a fogged darker bar horizontally across every frame (removed in PS in this one) that had sky in it! No idea why now - I suspect something mirror related and then there was the horrible Zenith 'blind' generated light bar issue (visible to the left in the linked frame)!

How we suffered for our art!

Active Assignment Weekly: Fancy Fence

WIT

I was able to get today off and decided to go shooting in the neighborhood. I drove all over the place looking for fences. Saw this run-down place off a busy street and found it intriguing. In PP, I upped the contrast; otherwise, I left it as-is.

Split Rock Lighthouse is a lighthouse located southwest of Silver Bay, Minnesota, USA on the North Shore of Lake Superior. The structure was designed by lighthouse engineer Ralph Russell Tinkham and was completed in 1910 by the United States Lighthouse Service at a cost of $75,000, including the buildings and the land. It is considered one of the most picturesque lighthouses in the United States.

Here’s the first installment of a self-assigned odyssey that’s going to light up my Flickr photostream. We spent a week at the hottest camping spot on the North Shore, Shipwreck Creek Campground at Split Rock Lighthouse State Park in Minnesota. These shots will take you on a wild ride through the south side of the North Shore, hitting Taconite Harbor, Tettegouche State Park, Palisade Head, Gooseberry Falls State Park, and a bungled attempt to capture an abandoned Air Force radar base near Finland. And of course, the legendary Split Rock Lighthouse State Park. The North-North Shore trip is already on the drawing board, so expect more madness in the coming months.

The first shot is the iconic Split Rock Lighthouse. It’s a classic money shot that everyone tries, but few nail with the finesse it deserves. Here’s hoping I did it justice.
