Splash photos on Flickr

Photo for the Strobist Sundays theme "Splash!" I couldn't decide which I liked more, so I uploaded a few. I'm dropping one of those rubber super bounce balls into a glass of water. I originally tried a high key photo, but I couldn't figure out the lighting despite the advice in this discussion: www.flickr.com/groups/strobistsundays/discuss/72157626306.... I decided just to boom the light overhead and shoot into a black background.

* Key: SB-28 at about 1/16 power on a boom almost directly above the glass and zoomed to 85 mm.

I know this isn't exactly the "Splash shot" you're expecting, but the lonely droplet at the top right corner makes me really sad. I want people to see it just so it knows that even though it's up there all alone, there is someone, somewhere, who cares whether it stays up there or falls back into the pool.

A perennial Pedalpalooza favorite of mine.. Splash Dance! We had a great sound system and rode to a few fountains downtown for dancing and playing.

This photo represents the best of about 150 attempts today to take an even semi-decent photo of water splashing. It is a learning shot, and I feel as though the red in the background is a bit distracting. However, to take it out would leave the foreground hints of red seem misplaced. It was great fun and I look forward to getting better at this kind of photography.
