The 'Spirit of Peace' hybrid tea-rose. A Meilland rose.

‘Spirit of Peace’ was released by Meilland International of France in 1995, to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the release of the famous 'Peace' rose and mark the anniversary of the end of World War Two.

Amazingly, South Australia, of all places, was chosen as the location to release this beautiful rose to the world.

Spirit Island enjoys a worldwide reputation, and is one of the most famous and photographed views in the Canadian Rockies. Truly a spiritual experience to stand here.

Back from trips to Yellowstone, Tetons and Canadian Rockies. What a triple treat! Met many new and long-time flickr friends. Smiles by the miles. Plenty of raw images to work thru the upcoming winter. Now time to get to work....

Spirit Island is a tiny island in Maligne Lake in Jasper National Park. Actually, for most of the year it is connected to the shore by a narrow isthmus and not technically an island. Only with heavy spring rains and snow melt does the water level rise enough to cut off the island from the lake shore.

The island is a spiritual place for the Stoney Nakoda First Nation, who believe mountains are physical representations of their ancestors. Spirit Island is surrounded on three sides by the same mountain range, a very rare arrangement which makes it particularly significant to the Stoney.

One of the highlights of my trip to Canada in 2019 was a boat trip along Maligne Lake, my word what a beautiful place this is. As ever in Canada the skies were cloudy and grey but this seemed to make the lakes colour glow all the more . The colour of the water also deepened as you moved down the lake . The tiny island is called Spirit Island and it has special significance to the first nation people of the area .

Spirit of Tuskegee, a plane at the Smithsonian, National Museum of African American History and Culture

The plane was used as a training plane for the Tuskegee Airmen in Moton, Alabama.

It was a donation by pilot and owner, Capt. Matt Quy, after cross-country journey from California to Washington, D.C.

Spirit Island is located on the remote end of Maligne Lake. The only way to get to this island is on a boat tour. You are allowed a half hour to explore the area and take photos. I was able to quickly get this shot after fighting off the other tourists to jockey a spot. ;)
