Spindle seal leak is a relatively easy replacement. First jack up and support the truck. Open the fill plug for the gear oil and then drain from the bottom hole, reinstall the drain plug and inspect the fluid for metal. Measure the idler arm (or radius arm) attachment for the geared hub, remove and discard the cotter pin and unscrew the castle nut. Tap from the side with a mallet to knock the idler arm loose and remove. It should drop out. Unscrew the air line with a hand wrench, and unbolt the 4 bolts retaining the cover shown above. Note spacer and washer placement of the bolts and internal CTIS shield.

The Atzei Chayim

(Hebrew, pl., trees of life; sing., aitz chayim)

The atzei chayim are the two wooden shafts attached to either end of the Torah scroll, around which it is rolled. Each shaft is made long enough to extend beyond the top and bottom of the scroll, and is used as a handle with which to hold the Torah and to scroll from portion to portion.

Amber Beads:

is worn in the hair of unmarried Fulani girl from herder families. Once married girls would wear large amber beads around their neck and in their hair for protection and style..

Amber was highly prized in some areas as a symbol of status and protection. A beautiful selection of old "Amber" from Mali, Morocco, Guinea and Mauritania are in this collection.

Showing the wide variety of shapes and colors all the beads are in excellent condition. Very old amber is difficult to find, increasingly valuable and highly collectable. Some of the beads were mended and most have been fitted with copper and brass to protect the preparation. All amber is from the collection of MBAD/ABA African Bead Museum.

Copal:

is found when a particular of tree resin is buried and pressed beneath the earth for as long as 20,000 years. It is unearthed in a Simi-fossilized state, primarily in Mozambique and coastal Zanzibar.

As recently as 60 years ago, copal was used in bride purchases by the Fulani people of Mali and Burkina Faso. One large bead was the equivalent of four cows, smaller bead was worth two.

Today in the Mopti region Fulani women can still be seen wearing these golden beads as symbols of prestige and wealth.

TFL - Architectural Details

This appears to be a late 19th Century house. It is small and rather non-descript With only one window and and a door facing the street. The front door was treated to a little porch, but the builder took the time to add a little style by including these corbels with the little spindles. Fortunately, when the house got new aluminum siding, they left this millwork intact.

I am very excited about this. Well as you can all see, I have the beautiful silk alpaca waiting for me to spin it. I don't want to waste it so I am practicing and practicing. The spindle I got originally when I first started was too small I found. It didn't have enough weight to it and didn't hold very much spun yarn.

My husband and I came up with this one! It spins forever! I love it. I used a CD to trace and we glued the dowel. The burn marks on the side are where my husband used a grinder to make the edges really smooth. I told him this was super important so the fiber wouldn't catch on the edge. I saw Vickie Howell make one with a CD on Knitty Gritty but I couldn't get the CD to be tight enough on the dowel so we did it this way. I am very very pleased with this and I had him make me two! Yippee! stay tuned!

I love these funny looking flowers, which come into their own when the trees are bare and the colours of winter are beginning to get that bleached out appearance.
