This week’s 52F theme is "cramped." I didn’t spend much time shooting this week because I had a lot going on with work and home. While making dinner for my family, I noticed that one of my cupboards was almost overflowing with spices and rubs. Since the global pandemic began, my wife and I have accumulated so many because we decided to cook at home more often. Cooking and spending quality time with my family is one of the many positives that came out of the pandemic.

This ornate doorways in the Old Town of Kathmandu revealed a woman at work preparing spices for the meal. Time seemed to have stood still. I'm sure this depicts what has happened through the ages.

So I tagged along with my aunt & mom into the bazaars of Ahmedabad. Did I mention I *hate* shopping? Well, carrying a camera along makes it easier! Just loved the arrangement and the colours of spices at this shop.

The shopkeeper asked: "Aa D40 Chhe?" (Is it a D40)

I: "Na, Canon 450D, chhe"(No, its a Canon 450D)

Shopkeeper: "Bau mongu hase." (must be costly)

(I told him the cost)

Shopkeeper: "Aa tamaaro kaam chhe? photography?" (Is photography your work?)

I: "Na" (no)

Shopkeeper:"Pacchi, tame vaacho cho?" (You study in that field?)

I: "Naa, shauk chhe bas" (No, its just a hobby)

You should have seen his dazed face!

Having a little fun with some photos.

The Spice Bazaar is also known as the Egyptian Bazaar (Turkish: Mısır Çarşısı) .

It was designed by the then chief architect of the Ottoman Empire, Mimar Kasım, who died the year before it opened (1660).

The bazaar is located next to the Yeni Mosque and the animal market; near the Galata Bridge.

Mom had some spice drops at her house. Couldn't resist photographing them!

This was #1 on Explore for July 16 2009 for a short while! ;-)
