The #FlickrFriday #Spice challenge
I have (ahem) limited culinary talent. Thankfully for this challenge, I'd chosen to marry a chef so the kitchen was a rich source of photogenic props.
Here are saffron (one of the world's most expensive spices by weight - nothing but the best for Flickr!), paprika and curry leaves. The little cupboard is something chef acquired sometime, and atop is a pestle and mortar, used to grind spices together for à la carte creations.
The items are window lit on an overcast day. A narrow aperture was selected to enhance depth of focus and colour popping processing was applied in Photoshop to enhance foreground colours and reduce those in the background, which is the chopping board chef uses daily to create her masterpieces.
I found an amazing cookbook at the library this week - 500 Curries! Published by Hermes House, an imprint of Anness Publishing Ltd. Not only are there 500 recipes, there are amazing photos of almost every finished dish. I'm certain I'll be renewing this one when it's due, and will be trying many of the dishes.

“Pumpkin pie spice has been mentioned in cookbooks dating to the 1890s.
Blended pumpkin pie spice was introduced commercially by McCormick & Company in 1934.and is now commercialized by many companies.
The American coffee chain Starbucks developed a Pumpkin Spice Latte in January 2003, adding it to a range of seasonal winter drinks. Starbucks' director of espresso Americas, Peter Dukes, said that "developers realized there was something special around the pumpkin flavor, especially since there wasn't anything around pumpkin at the time". The company experimented with different combinations and ratios of pumpkin to spice, ultimately deciding on a recipe with no pumpkin in it. It became Starbucks' most popular seasonal beverage.”
The spice shops in Morocco are a sight to see and the smells will keep you coming back for more. Moroccans have some of them most amazing spices and the most colorful ways of displaying them. Every shop was full of color and composition. They are a fantastic place to find a unique picture. I spent about an hour tasting and smelling spices from all over Africa. I also took a little time to eat some dried fruit and nuts. I ate like a king in Morocco and still lost 18 pounds! The food was fantastic!
Can you find the man sitting in this shot?
The holidays are a celebration of many things including family, cooking and food. I have selected a few of the more unusual spices, fruits and utensils to cook with.

Yes, I know the common name is Scaly-Breasted Munia, but the pet store name is prettier. So happy to see them back at my feeder in 2018. Just one pair so far. May 2018.
