Hamburg is called the gate to the world, but the world is also present in Hamburg.
For example Egypt :-)
There are two 240years old sphinges at the entry to a park in Hamburg-Wandsbek.
Photographed in Pasadena California for Scott Kelby's Worldwide Photowalk, October 6th 2018. Images processed with Lightroom, Photoshop, Lumenzia and Topaz filters.
Final one in this set of three from Coyote Buttes South. I don't know if it has a name in common use - looks to me a bit like the side-on shot of the Sphinx in Egypt.
Today there have been windy rains. There I thought about what I can photograph. On top of a cupboard stood a Sphinx figure. Well, said and done. I would have rather sunshine outside on motive search. Nice that there are still old figures. Thank you for visiting my site. I wish you a great weekend.

A mystic surrealist work based in the ancient Egyptian Art.
My last work for this week !
Wish you a wonderful week and weekend dear friends ! : )
I will be here more at night and trying catching up in groups and challenges.
Not only is this sphinx with a woman's head weird in itself, but what is even more weird is that the head of this sphinx, by sculptor John Cheere, is a likeness of Gladys Deacon, second wife of the 9th Duke of Marlborough.
I would think she'd have been most insulted!

It would be easy to mistake a sphinx moth for a hummingbird because they hover at flowers while feeding and are about the same size. This one visited the petunias on our deck and was totally unconcerned that I was there. In fact, I cupped my hand under it as it hovered and was so close I could feel the air moving off its wings. The wings beat so fast that the tips are blurred in this photo taken at 1/640 second. This one is a white-lined sphinx moth. Other names are hawk moth and hummingbird moth.

My neighbour spotted this caterpillar on a road today. Achemon Sphinx Moths are uncommon, large and strong fliers. Indeed, this caterpillar was large and strong. See a pic of an adult using the link below.
I'm given to understand the Egyptian Sphinxes are all male while the Greek versions are female. But the headgear on this example seems distinctly Egyptian. Indeed everything about this mausoleum is Egyptian Revival except for the sphinx breasts. Makes me wonder how the conversation with the sculptor went.
"Make it Egyptian but with a little something extra in the chest, if you get me."
"Well sir, that wouldn't really be Egypti–"
"Call it Greek then!"
"It's not really Greek either, sir."
"Just do it you dime-store Donatello! Who's the shipping magnate here!?"

Spending the day with my wonderful daughter we went and took some shots at the Historic Spring Grove Cemetery after some car tossing at the Club Blatz Junkyard Madness event this past Sunday. The light was perfect this day, normally I don't like direct sunlight for my shots.
On another note I am the featured photographer on the My Life At Arnold's blog for Photorgrapher Fridays! Click the link and check it out!

Considered anti-Christain at the time of it's instillation 1850, one of Spring Grove Cemetery's founders David Lawler decided to place this Sphinx on his family plot to commemorate the lives of his Mother and Father. It is one of the most interesting and beautiful monuments in the entire cemetery.
