In preparation for the big reunion at the Grammy's tonight.

Ronnie Spector, born Veronica Bennett and famous as the lead singer of the Ronettes, joined Cousin Brucie and shared memoris of showing the Beatles around Manhattan - I think she said she took them to see the Apollo Theater in Harlem - with Brucie and his radio listeners, as well as the live audience at the convention. Ronnie Spector is a fifth Beatle by way of her ex-husband Phil's work with the group on Let It Be and his subsequent work with John Lennon and George Harrison in their solo careers, as well as her personal friendships with all four Beatles and and some songs George wrote for her.

The Ronettes had big hits in the early sixties with "Be My Baby" and "Baby I Love You," and, as I might have mentioned earlier on this photostream, Billy Joel originally wrote "Say Goodbye To Hollywood" with her in mind. Her cover version, with backing by Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, came out soon after Joel's own version on his Turnstiles LP.

Wayne McGregor Random Dance / Ben Frost

Yes, THE Shelby Daytona Coupe

"In 2001 the car was re-discovered in a rental storage unit in California. The owner Donna O'Hara had committed suicide by burning herself alive. The car had remained undiscovered for almost 30 years. Due to its estimated worth of over $4,000,000 USD the car was part of an extensive legal battle between her mother who sold the car to a collector in Pennsylvania, and a friend of Ms. O'Hara who was the recipient in her will of the contents of the storage unit. An earlier owner of the car appears to have been music producer Phil Spector who had been known to drive it on the streets of Los Angeles. Built for high-speed sprints, the cab became uncomfortably warm as the car engine heated up, among other problems. "It wasn't a street car; it was a race car", Shelby said. Still, Spector drove it on the streets, and legend is that Spector racked up so many speeding tickets, his lawyer advised him to get rid of the car before he lost his license.

CSX2287 has been mechanically reconditioned and is on display at the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum in Philadelphia. Jay Leno has been to the museum and video of him driving the car appears on his web site"

A portrait of Frederick MacPherson from indie band Spector, who are being tipped for great things.

They were the first of two support acts tonight for "Florence and the Machine".

It's rare you get decent shots from a support band, generally just because the lighting isn't up to much.

The lighting for this set was frustrating at times, but it did have its moments, as you can see.

I was actually the only photographer in for this set (more arrived later), so it was nice to have the pit to myself. Oh, and I was rather impressed with those Spector laddies...a band to watch.

My thanks are due to Alex Hewitt from The Scotsman and Jack Scourfield from Toastpress PR for arranging my photo pass.

PHIL SPECTOR

- record producer

- past Cobra owner (CSX2287)

The disgraced record producer once associated with such musicians as The Beatles, Ike and Tina Turner, the Ramones and the Righteous Brothers, used to own the original prototype Cobra Daytona Coupe (1967-71). He drove the former race car on the streets of Los Angeles, for which it was ill suited, and eventually sold the car ...although that didn't stop him from trying to get it back in a convoluted ownership battle with Dr. Fred Simeone, the car's rightful owner.

I made this photo of Mrs. Lucy Spector and my wife Melody during a visit to Lucy's home in Hillsborough California, a posh community about 15 minutes south of San Francisco. Mrs. Spector and her husband founded Britex Fabrics on San Francisco's Union Square in 1952. Melody worked there for 35 years, retiring in early 2015 - 10 months before this photo. Melody considered Mrs. Spector as a second mother. Though she was Melody's employer, Mrs. Spector was also Melody's mentor and friend. I got away with calling Mrs. Spector by her first name but I only heard Melody refer to Lucy as Mrs. This photo was taken three days before Lucy's 92nd birthday.

I post this photo on July 19, 2017 - GMT - as a tribute and in memory of this great lady who passed from this world on July 1, 2017. She was an inspiration and leader to many people throughout her long career running Britex Fabrics. She was a gracious lady, a caring human being, a shrewd business woman, and will be missed by all who knew her.
