Spectacle Lake, a great trout fishing lake in the upper Okanogan Valley of north central Washington, is where I learned to fish with my grandfather 63 years ago. This sunset view of the lake presented itself during a sojourn into the past with my grandson, Duncan, who at the age of 11 caught his first trout here. (7/29/2009)

A species which always makes me smile, and with relatively little in the trap I spent some time photographing this one from various angles. The role of the ‘spectacles’ in the camouflage scheme seems apparent.

I took a ferry to Spectacle Island, part of the Boston Harbor Islands park. This is the sign on the island's pier, with the North Drumlin (highest point on island, 571') in the background.
