A few weeks ago I discovered this ditch with ca. 15 Black Tern nests. It is a rare species in the Netherlands and the nests are constructed by the foundation that is owning this piece of land. Many nests have a little fence for keeping the young safe from falling into the water, or being predated by nasty creatures.
I went back three times, because it is such a treat to see how they are fed. The picture more a less tells it all, the speeding parent with a giant dragonfly, the young squeeking and opening their beaks, the parent dropping the food on the fly, and then off for another meal. This goes on 16 hours a day!
It is amazing how fast they grow. These chicks four days later started practicing flying, and another 4 days later they were gone.
In the mean time in other nests you could see them almost grow every minute. For sure I will return next year to see this spectacle again!
I think I took about 1000 pictures, many off them worth while showing. Enjoy.

Jökulsárlón is a large glacial lake in southern part of Vatnajökull National Park, Iceland.
Situated at the head of the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, it developed into a lake after the glacier started receding from the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. The lake has grown since then at varying rates because of melting of the glaciers.
Jökulsárlón has been a setting for four Hollywood movies.
These icebergs are seen in two shades: milky white and bright blue, which depends on the air trapped within the ice and is an interplay of light and ice crystals. And due to volcanic activity the ice can turn black due to the ashes covering the glacier after an eruption.

Always a surprising but nevertheless spectacular show... A frog appears in front of the photographer and offers him its most beautiful look. on the lookout for the slightest movement, she remains on her guard and dives at the slightest movement.

Dragon Fruit flower blooms in the quite of night, and unless you anticipate and be ready, you miss the beauty. The flower is short lived and in few days it will be replaced by a fruit. This cutting travelled 2000 kms and 2 years later resulted in a beautiful flower and a sweet fruit.

There is one spectacle grander than the sea, that is the sky; there is one spectacle grander than the sky, that is the interior of the soul.

Finally a sunny day :-) Also the Whooper Swans enjoyed that, at least they must have had spring fever and were already having a good time.
I then decided to capture the spectacle in moving pictures:

Driving on the Yellowhead highway along the North Thompson River last June, it didn't take a meteorologist to see that a big change in the weather was coming. The following day in Jasper, it was rain, and the day after that it was heavy snow. The dramatic view between the sky and mountains was quite the spectacle - until the cloud cover came down in earnest along the Icefields Parkway and obscured the mountains.
