Newest podcast from Iowa Music Showcase!I was trying to decide what to do for my 50th episode for a while. I thought about doing my favorites, but I've played most of them already. Then I saw that Brian Compos, for the Pants Off Podcast's 100th episode, had Brian Campos as the guest! I thought if he can get away with being so narcissistic, I could get away with being self-centered and playing a bunch of people I know. So this episode features music acts that have either a friend of mine, a family member, or a family member of a friend. Well, all except one. It has a member who has the same name as an old high school friend of mine. And I only found out last week that it wasn't his band! tabaco negro, nos gusta asi, toda una vida, pasar el rato, sabiduria, trabajo obligado, trabajo relajado, añoranza?...de que tipo?? sonidos de una barberia no de una peluqueria, diferente epoca, Si me dieran un super poder, elegiria el de la invisivilidad, cansancio, querer y no poder, amistad, cuenta historias verdaderas/imaginadas/falsas... y que mas da.

The Concept:
We’ve been living our lives at a rate of 24 hours per complete earth axis rotation at 365 days per complete circumference around the sun. We exist in our human form that is allowed at this speed of life. For one night, we will halt this speed to stop time; allowing our forms which hide between the threads of time to be released. In this timesphere, our alternate creatures celebrate their freedom from the clutches of passing time; relishing their freedom to finally come out of the shadows and explore. Come to “Timesphere” as your inner creature which exists deep in your timeless self.

The Intent:
We are putting all efforts into creating a reunion gathering to solidify the connections we all made with ourselves and others from Fractalfest, our 3 day gathering this summer. We invite you to part of an event which has both the wild and calming aspects. Together, let's find a balance in life and become as close to yin and yang, the Hunab Ku. Also to realize this balance is itself balanced with chaos. All we ask is you be respectful of yourself, of others, and of the space.

1) What are your main musical influences ?
Salsa is huge for me. Growing up with a Cuban family is amazing as far as music goes. Celia Cruz is one of the first artists that I can recollect being a fan of. Tropical music is so uplifting, even if the lyrical content is on a sad note.
Another huge musical influence is Jazz and Blues because I'm from New Orleans. I love the soul, grit, and emotion that's put into Jazz and Blues. I love the darkness and how its always about heart ache and struggle. Its a form of expression thats so repressed now a days.
Electronic music is the third musical love of my life. It reminds me of moving out to LA and discovering something totally new and different. I love the culture behind Electronic music. The fashion, dance moves, and energy behind it all is so alive!
2)Beside the music, which other arts do you really love?
I really enjoy writing. No let me re phrase that, I REALLY, REALLY love writing. My note books are my most faithful & true friends in this world. I think that their the reason why I'm making music in the first place. The expression of thought, and emotion on paper is like my burger and fries. It'll never get old.
I also enjoy the dancing arts. There's something really beautiful about seeing a person who's completely comfortable with movement. It's very freeing and admirable.
3) How do you imagine the future of the music industry? The cd would be extinguished? ,will there be only digital versions?, record labels may redefine their role?
I honestly believe that the future of music itself will revert to the past. LIve instruments, songs with more substance, & real artists. I don't see the CD lasting too much longer and I'm not too sad about it. It's more environmentally friendly to down load music any way.
There are so many kids creating hype on their own via social networking and youtube. I don't know what role labels would play if this continues on. Maybe they'll go with the CD's.
4)What was the first album you bought?, and which was the last? , both locally and internationally
The Miseducation of Lauren Hill when I was 14. That album was beyond me at that time but I still listened to it back to back for months on in. She's so empowering and has such brilliant word play and so many messages to send.
The last Album I downloaded was XX by The XX. Their an indie band who's sound is soothing and ambient. A mellow like swag. Their music reminds me of a day after being at the beach, feeling totally relaxed riding down the PCH. Their rad.
5) What topics had influence in your lyrics ?
Bad relationships, nights in Hollywood, and dreaming.
6)What are your future plans ?
I don't make plans for the future. They say if you wanna tell god a joke, tell em' you've got a plan. Day by day man.
