La terra ♫ (Odt Oddity)

Mi è già successo, sarà una cosa banale, ma è sempre una sorpresa. Mettere un rullino in una macchina d'epoca e, dopo averlo sviluppato, vedere alcune immagini che sembrano foto d'epoca anch'esse.

E' una questione di tipologia e di lenti, certo, per di più rese ancora meno nitide e incise dal tempo, passato più di un secolo da quando sono state montate nella fotocamera. Chissà chi era l'operaio che dall'altra parte dell'oceano, in America, le ha montate nei primi anni del 1900 in questa vecchia Kodak. Chissà se col suo stipendio poteva permettersi di comprare le fotocamere che costruiva, e se esiste una sua foto. Chissà chi è stato ad acquistarla e che fotografie ci ha fatto. Forse le prime erano di una New York ancora senza i grattacieli, con i cavalli per le strade, le poche automobili che ancora somigliavano di più alle vecchie carrozze.

E chissà da quanto questa fotocamera non scattava una foto. Dentro c'è un pezzo di carta ripiegata e ingiallita, messa per tenere meglio fermo il rocchetto con il film non ancora esposto, che altrimenti si muove un po' troppo. Non ho ancora avuto il coraggio di toglierla e dispiegarla - temendo di romperla - per vedere se c'è scritto qualcosa.

Chissà, forse è proprio questione di lenti. O forse, rimasta chiusa in un cassetto, questa vecchia Kodak non sa che è passato un secolo e produce immagini che sembrano scattate cento anni fa.

Così ha fatto per questo panorama del sud Sardegna con le rovine del castello del Conte Ugolino (sì, quello dell'Inferno di Dante e del “fiero pasto”) che, se non fosse per la casa di cemento che si intravede tra gli alberi, avrei pensato fosse una veduta della fine '800 inizi '900.

Forget your sorrows and dance! With the Berlin reggae band Nyabinghia it will definitely be a great reggae party. Beside mainly roots reggae and ska Nyabinghia's songs also have rock, funk and hip hop influences. In the early days, the guys covered songs of their idol Bob Marley but meanwhile their own songs predominate and make people dance.

Lead singer "Iron Leo" does not only convey a message with rasta philosophy that brings people together but also plays guitar solos that remind of the days of Hendrix and bring back the Woodstock feeling. This music is full of drive and energy. Percussive reggae rhythms, unique basslines, groovy offbeat and keyboard arrangements also play a part in contributing to create the individual Nyabinghia sound.

The Musicians: "Iron Leo" (guit, ld voc) from Africa, Kay Wegner (keys, voc) from Germany and Tito Araújo (dr, perc) from Brazil are the basis of Nyabinghia and are often supported by renowned musicians from the German reggae scene as for instance on the bass, percussion, the backing vocals or the brass section.

Flamenco, in its strictest sense, is an art form based on the various folkloric music traditions of southern Spain, developed within the gitano subculture of the region of Andalusia, but also having a historical presence in Extremadura and Murcia. In a wider sense, it is a portmanteau term used to refer to a variety of both contemporary and traditional musical styles typical of southern Spain. Flamenco is closely associated to the gitanos of the Romani ethnicity who have contributed significantly to its origination and professionalization. However, its style is uniquely Andalusian and flamenco artists have historically included Spaniards of both gitano and non-gitano heritage.

The oldest record of flamenco music dates to 1774 in the book Las Cartas Marruecas by José Cadalso. The development of flamenco over the past two centuries is well documented: "the theatre movement of sainetes (one-act plays) and tonadillas, popular song books and song sheets, customs, studies of dances, and toques, perfection, newspapers, graphic documents in paintings and engravings. ... in continuous evolution together with rhythm, the poetic stanzas, and the ambiance.”

On 16 November 2010, UNESCO declared flamenco one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

Rebecca Cherry has been featured internationally as a soloist, performer and composer. In this timesphere, our alternate creatures celebrate their freedom from the clutches of passing time; relishing their freedom to finally come out of the shadows and explore. We believe that the through the modality of meditation everyone has the power for introspection and growth. Sound, particularly from the gongs, has a unique ability to clear mental clutter, streamlining the meditation practice.

We utilize Gongs, singing bowls, and positive intention to decrease mental distraction, allowing the body the chance return to its natural resonance.

I had a relatively large photoshoot with the Danidolls last week, but I haven't been home to edit any of them until now! I'm definitely still loving them!!! They're a lot of fun to redress - they can fit most Barbie & FR, though beware that their hands do NOT come off. I tried the Danidolls pieces on my FRs as well, and they mostly fit just fine, however the pants are just a LITTLE too long, so they would have to be rolled or bunched up :) Barbie and FR shoes both work as well, and they can wear the Danidolls' shoes too!

As you can see, I had a little fun mixing up their stock pieces and throwing in some other dolls' stuff as well. They fit silkstone lingerie surprisingly well (though bottoms are a little hard to fasten)!

D200's extended Indian Summer 1985-1988

A shot of Class 40 D200 after arrival at Ebbw Vale. The mighty D200 was working the Pathfinder Railtours 'Gwent Valley Explorer'. Probably one of the most obscure locations that I travelled behind this fine locomotive to was up the line to Oakdale Colliery.

On the sign - what is the N.S.K.T. section?? Thanks to ggjfdvmm7 for the explanation in the comments section below :)

Apart from working the Carlisle-Leeds 1E23/1M26 service on a regular basis, and hauling numerous rail tours, celebrity survivor D200 / 40122 worked many other service trains during its extended reprieve. But once she had been preserved, by the National Railway Museum (NRM) at York in April 1988, she saw very little actual service again.

And continuing in 2024... Sound & Vision on SoundCloud - more memories from a mis-spent youth 😎 During the 1980s, I spent a lot of my time riding around the British Rail network, mainly chasing Class 40s and then Class 50s, but also seeing and riding behind a number of other classes. I made a number of tape recordings at the time - many from the front window, some from the platform - using my trusty 'ghetto-blaster' or 'boom box' - and now these recordings can finally be heard :)
