Stell dir vor, es gäb‘ kein‘ Himmel

es ist ganz leicht, wenn du’s versuchst.

Unter uns keine Hölle

über uns nur‘s Firmament

Stell dir vor, alle Völker

lebten in Frieden hier.

Die Welt wär ohne Grenzen,

wie wunderbar das wär'.

Nie mehr Flucht vor Kriegen,

Vertreibung gäb's nicht mehr.

Stell dir vor, wir leben

ohne Hass und Neid.

Du magst sagen, dass ich träume,

doch ich bin damit nicht allein.

Eines Tag‘s vielleicht sind wir viele

und diese Welt ist vereint.

Stell dir vor, ’s gäb keine Armut,

Glaube mir, das würde geh’n.

Sinnlos wär'n Gier und Hunger,

es ist noch nicht zu spät.

Stell dir vor alle Völker

teilen sich gerecht die Welt

Du magst sagen...

Lied bei John Lenon

Milford Sound - what more can I say? Such a beautiful location. This six-shot panorama was taken from a moving boat so needed to be taken fairly quickly. Pretty happy with the result and very happy with being there on such a beautiful winter's day.

Outside it's a frosty and chilly sunset while inside the symphony conjures up a classical masterpiece.

This was an art installation from May 10 to June 21 down at the World Trade Center. There were about 10 of these creating a pathway down toward the 9/11 Memorial. It’s now been removed, but it was very cool. These metal spheres turned, and as they turned, you would hear sounds. it was up to the visiting public to turn them and then of course the center circle had a reflective glass in them. At first they were not very impressive but when you began to play with them, they ended up being quite fun. Unfortunately I discovered the display on June 20.

Eons ago there were hills and valleys at the northern end of NZ's South Island. Now the sea has flooded in and made sounds. Seen from Air NZ shortly after take-off from Wellington on our way home.

Love the sounds of ice when temperature gets lower. Have a great year 2023!

We were very fortunate to visit Milford Sound/Piopiotahi again recently. A great day for it. Milford Sound is a fiord in the south west of New Zealand's South Island located at the top of Fiordland National Park. The scenery is hard to describe. Natural beauty: serene, tranquil, spiritual. The mountains and deep fiords commands respect. It is also one of the wettest spots in New Zealand so dramatic cloud cover and some drizzle is to be expected.

Milford Sound is a fjord in the south west of New Zealand's South Island, within Fiordland National Park and the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage site. It has been judged the world's top travel destination in an international survey and is acclaimed as New Zealand's most famous tourist destination. Rudyard Kipling had previously called it the eighth Wonder of the World. With a mean annual rainfall of 6,813 mm on 182 days a year, a high level even for the West Coast, Milford Sound is known as the wettest inhabited place in New Zealand and one of the wettest in the world. Rainfall can reach 250 mm during a span of 24 hours. The rainfall creates dozens of temporary waterfalls (as well as a number of major, more permanent ones) cascading down the cliff faces, some reaching a thousand metres in length. Smaller falls from such heights may never reach the bottom of the sound, drifting away in the wind.

Mitre Peak (centre) rises 1,692 metres above the sound.

The beauty of this landscape draws thousands of visitors each day, with between 550,000 and 1 million visitors in total per year. This makes the sound one of New Zealand's most-visited tourist spots, and also the most famous New Zealand tourist destination.

I took this image a year ago after Christmas from the balcony of my mom's home in Schuders, a small mountain village located in the Swiss Alps near the Austrian border. It's beautiful up there.

I processed a photographic and a balanced HDR photo from two RAW exposures, blended them, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

Gonna start a series from the Oregon coast.

Nothing quite like the sounds of flying birds and surging waves against a rocky shore. This was taken near Depoe Bay.

Mountains and their ecosystems are my primary passion but I've felt the pull of the surf more recently. Years in the Navy provided some great surf time when younger. I enjoyed a trip to the southern Oregon coast last year, which I'll post soon. Here's some from an earlier trip to the central OR coast.

Have a wonderful week!

CP 118 makes it way across the dam in Parry Sound, soon to get back onto the CP at South Parry. This really shouldn't have been at 5pm, but 119 was having issues in Mactier and moderate dispatch/management incompetence had this sitting a while.

This is such a strange image. You can almost "hear" the dense muffled silence of the swamps.

We hopped on our chopper and headed out of Milford Sound which allowed us to see first hand the majesty of this magnificent natural wonder. With sheer walls towering 1,200 meters or 3,900 feet and plunging to the depths of near 1000 feet or 291 meters it's no wonder that Rudyard Kipling once call the sound the 8th wonder of the world. We will be back!
