I am trying to grow basil and cilantro indoors, (cilantro doesn't look too hot, but it still smells fragrant and we just used some the other night), but unfortunately they bring fruit flies.
I read that you can use apple cider vinegar with a little soap (makes them sink and drown) and put a small hole in saran wrap.
I did this and have drowned 5 of the suckers, but there are still more that just won't visit the little death trap.
Has anyone found a solution to this pesky problem? If so, please share!

JLF Moving Solutions Take Delivery of New Scania R320
… while their first Scania hits the 1½ million kilometres landmark
Keltruck, the largest independent Scania Distributor in Europe, has supplied a new Scania R320 to JLF Moving Solutions of Burntwood, Staffordshire. The truck is the fifth Scania truck to join their fleet, while the first – bought in 2001 – is still going strong and has recently surpassed 1½ million kilometres.
JLF Moving Solutions was started by brothers, John & Steve Lomas in 2009, with 35 years’ experience. The first vehicle they owned was a Ford Transit van. They now have 31 vehicles, including five Scania trucks, to help them with removals, homepack services, office removals, European removals, containerised storage, document storage and specialist services to the fire & flood industry.
Steve and John first bought a Scania truck in 2001 as they needed larger vehicles than the 7.5 tonne HGVs they were using. That truck, a P220 day cab fitted with ARZ sleeper pod for two people, has been serviced by Keltruck Willenhall for nearly 20 years and is still going strong with more than one and half million kilometres on the clock.
John Lomas, Company Director commented, “The first Scania truck we bought has been, and continues to be, a great truck for us. All our drivers like driving the Scanias – and this one in particular. Even Steve and I drive it from time to time.”
Their new Scania R320 high roof is the company’s first new generation Scania with the newly developed interior. JLF was able to customise their truck by adding a third seat to accommodate a full team of moving staff.
Keltruck has now been working with Steve and John for 18 years and has developed a great working relationship. All of JLF Moving Solutions’ Scania vehicles are serviced on long term repair and maintenance contracts, starting at 60 months and extending beyond that.
John Lomas continued, “The Scania trucks are excellent – a great drive and very robust – while the support we get from Keltruck is outstanding, both in terms of the buying process and the aftersales services.”

VA Convenes Leaders in Brain Health to Advance Solutions for mTBI and PTSD at Brain Trust Summit
WASHINGTON – The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is leading a groundbreaking two-day event focused on brain health, Brain Trust: Pathways to InnoVAtion. The first annual public-private partnership event will take place this week at the National Press Club and the IBM Institute for Electronic Government in Washington, DC.
Building on the extraordinary leadership and trailblazing efforts of a number of distinguished VA brain researchers, VA is convening many of the most influential voices in the field of brain health – to include the Department of Defense, the sports industry, private sector, federal government, Veterans and community partners - to identify and advance solutions for mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Issues related to brain health and head trauma transcend the Veteran and military community, impacting all Americans. By highlighting the themes of collaborative research, medical technology, and sports innovation for player safety, Brain Trust participants will discuss the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and reintegration of Veterans, athletes, and Americans in general - suffering from head trauma related injuries. The event will also serve as a showcase for many of the advancements that VA is pioneering to improve brain health for Veterans, the military and for the American public at large.
In addition to many of the world’s most accomplished brain research scientists, other confirmed participants in the summit include sports commentator Bob Costas, Gen. Peter Chiarelli (CEO of One Mind, and the former Vice Chief of Staff of the Army), Briana Scurry (former U.S. Women’s Soccer Player), Jeanne Marie Laskas (author of the GQ article that inspired the movie Concussion), Terry O’Neil (16-time Emmy award winner), representatives from the NFL Players Association, the NFL, the NCAA, DARPA, DOD, NIH, CDC, and many more.
During the summit a special announcement will be made by Chris Nowinski co-founder of the Concussion Legacy Foundation (CLF) and former WWE professional wrestler. Joining Chris will be a former Super Bowl champion and an Olympic gold medalist, each of whom will be using this Summit to announce that they will be donating their brains to the CLF for the purposes of advancing brain health. CLF has partnered with VA and Boston University to establish the VA-BU-CLF Brain Bank, directed by VA’s own Dr. Ann McKee, now the largest sports mTBI and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) repository in the world with over 325 brains donated, and over a thousand more pledged.
“VA is uniquely positioned to contribute to the care of Veterans with traumatic brain injury (TBI),” said VA Secretary McDonald. “The work we do produces results and life changing improvements in care for Veterans — as well as for all Americans, and for people around the world who suffer from these brain related injuries.”
The following organizations are teaming up with VA as event partners: Amazon, Booz Allen Hamilton, Comcast, GE Healthcare, IBM, Johnson & Johnson, Optum Health, and Philips.

The Underage Drinking Town Hall was Thursday, Oct. 18 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Center for Education in Huntington. Of the numerous entries we received in our recent Faith Solutions Contest, we thought this entry from Michael L. of Illinois was the best. It’s longer than any of the others, but well worth the time and full of good examples and advice for all us at this difficult time.
“Thank you for the opportunity to share with you how the Holy Spirit has led me to a greater prayer life and, consequently, a greater relationship, with God. This is not about the contest. This is about growing in Christ. As we get to know Him better, we love Him more and as we love Him more, we display that love to Him by bringing others to Him.
As the (above) photo shows, I have a prayer corner in my home office. That did not exist at Christmas 2019. In fact, it did not exist until Lent 2020 when we were in lock-down due to the Plague. The forced Fasting from Eucharist in addition to the usual Lenten Fast, created a void in my spiritual life. The civil authorities and our cooperating hierarchy might keep me from Mass and Adoration but they cannot keep me from praying.
In forming the prayer corner, I let the Holy Spirit guide me where to arrange it. Naturally, He led me to the east wall of my office, where I set up the icons you see on either side of the red candle-holder with the Cross on it. So, I am always facing east when I pray to the Lord. I now pray to Him upon arising, usually at 4:30, again at Noon, at 5:00 pm and finally before going to bed. All of the books you see in the picture are books about the faith, the vast majority of which I have read. The ones lying horizontally are up next.

Prayer four times a day! My prayer life before the Plague was scatter-shot and inconsistent. Now, it is more consistent than my meals and more plentiful, too! We can either throw up our hands and surrender at the first sign of trouble or we can go to Him and have Him provide us with what we need to love and serve Him here so we can be happy with Him later. Prayer facilitates all of that.
My improved prayer life has not only improved my relationship with God, it has improved my relationship with my wife; it has improved my relationship with my son and daughter-in-law; it has improved my relationship with my parents and my brother and my friends. Why? Because who can consciously nurture ill-will towards others when he prays four times a day? It would mean not comprehending the very words he uses in speaking to the Lord!
So, you ask what are my Faith Solutions? It is prayer, prayer, prayer and prayer again. The prayer corner is where I sit four times per day talking to my Lord and Savior. I know He hears me and I know He loves me. I know this "sacred ground" in my house created in response to the civil authorities' response to the Plague was what the Holy Spirit wanted from me in order to get closer to Him.

Reading Scripture and books by Augustine, Benedict XVI, St. Therese of Lisieux, Faustina, Chesterton, Belloc, Chrysostom help us know and love God more. I do that now in the corner you see. So, not only do I sit and pray there four times per day, I spend free time reading His word or about Him from men and women holier than I.
Prayer is our holiness at work. Reading is formation which increases our knowledge of God pursuant to which we love Him more and to show Him our love we do what He wants: to love Him with all our hearts, souls, minds and strength and to love our neighbor as ourselves; and to go and make disciples of all the nations. We do this when we draw others to Christ through our actions as Christians.
So, the Plague has not been all bad for me at all. It has borne some very sweet fruit, indeed!”
