A shot of the drive cages of the "20mm Oerlikon" computer. Inside those cages are a Blu-Ray writer, (from LG, in the top cage) a 120Gb SolidStateDrive (middle cage, top shelf, from Corsair, like many components in this build) and a 3 Tb hard drive (from Western Digital, lower shelf of middle section.) The bottom cage has been left open for future expansions - I have 3 open SATA ports on the motherboard. Taken the same day as the prior shot in my photostream, the same comment about the video card applies. Been off the air for a bit. My computer needed to be upgraded, so today Stu did an upgrade for me, now I have twice the space on my computer than I did before.
Another one. This time in retail packaging. Newegg was running a special on this the other morning ($240) and I just couldn't resist. The difference between the retail vs the OEM kit is the packaging and the 2.5" -> 3.25" bracket that the retail kit comes with.
Now I need to buy another laptop to put this in.

Samsung demo'ing the fact that Solid State Drives (SSD) outperform hard disks in terms of Transactions Per Second (TPS - 7137 vs 1939 for regular HD's) and in terms of energy use (SSD's use 170W vs 286 for HD)
This the best laptop upgrade anyone can do. Disk Data Transfer rate from Windows Experience Index jumped from 5.9 to 7.8 (max is 7.9). Not bad for a 30 month old laptop ! Photoshop opens in 4 seconds and when opening a 370 mg psd file, it takes 12 seconds ! Now that is quick!!!

This Samsung 250 GB solid state drive replaced my Seagate Barracuda 1TB 64MB Cache 7200 rpm 3.5-inch internal disk drive because I wanted to speed up my computers boot time. It is used to just store the operating system files. I have a Seagate Desktop SSHD 2TB 64MB Cache 7200 rpm 3.5-inch internal disk drive to store everything else. My computer now boots up very fast.
I also forgot to change the SATA controller mode from IDE to AHCI.
I had to open the RUN dialog box by right-clicking over the far left-bottom corner of desktop, selecting the Run option and then typing MSCONFIG and Enter.
Clicked on Boot tab, check the Safe boot box, and click OK to restart the computer.
After restart, got into BIOS settings by pressing Delete, change the hard disk mode to AHCI, save settings on exit and reboot. Windows will now boot in safe mode.
Run MSCONFIG again, go to Boot tab, uncheck the Safe boot option and click OK to restart.
I did not have to do this on my Sony VAIO laptop. After I installed the SSD and checked, I discovered it was already in AHCI mode.
