Sweet solid state hard drives from Intel. These are 4gb models and are extremely fast. These would retail for roughly $70-80. They are great for kiosk, and demo system including numerous other applications. I love these things!

For the record, I haven't 100% ruled out the possibility that it's a problem with my Mac, and OWC has done everything in their power so far to help me out with this, and it's covered under their 3 year warranty.

But this is one of the things that has been stressing me out over the past few days. The drive in my MacBook Air seems to be dying. Which is weird for a solid state drive--usually if they go, they just go and that's it. They don't get gradually flaky like rotational disks do. Fortunately, I suppose, it hasn't acted like that, so I was able to rescue all of my data off of it (there were three days worth of photos and allllll of my edits over the past few years in a Lightroom catalog on that drive).

The other thing that has been stressing me is that the annoying cough I had yesterday seems to have graduated into honest-to-God Influenza. I spent most of Tuesday in bed with a fever (for better or for worse, it was a day I'd already asked off of work, so I didn't have to miss), which made the issues with my laptop especially aggravating.

came home and found this stuff. the only things that were actually on sale were the Intel 320 SSDs (killer Black Friday deal) - I talked myself into the rest of the stuff just because.

They are insanely awesome

Another KingSpec - this one for my X41. unfortunately the X41's BIOS doesn't like non-Lenovo drives, and gives the nasty double BIOS beep. All the same, compared to the 4200rpm 1.8" spinner that comes with the X40/X41, this is a massive improvement.

Looks like the casing has changed a bit and it's a little bit faster than my other KingSpec.

December 2013

I guess I bought this in <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/aaronliao/4884354915/"August of 2010 and never got around to doing anything with it. I couldn't sleep last night, so I went into work and swapped this into my other work laptop (Dell Latitude D820) and did the whole network PXE boot thing and so now I have a fresh copy of Win7 Enterprise on the new SSD.

The Kingston's specs (for this series, at least) are fairly decent for the price - this drive was under $80 at time of purchase. It's no speed demon compared to say, the Intel X25-M, but definitely a big improvement over the drive it replaced in the photo (Seagate 7200.1 100gb).

More SSD. Now they come in blister packs. How mainstream. I'll benchmark this against my golden standard Intel X25-M G2 SSD soon...

These are on sale at Newegg for $100, which is a pretty awesome deal.

Taken with my iPhone 4.

one of the smaller, thinner 1.8" form factor SSDs. this one is made by Samsung and is 128gb.

this is a replacement for a toshiba 1.8" 128gb SSD that suddenly blue screened and went bad. yum.

waiting on one more SSD to arrive in the mail (for my ThinkPad X41) and then...lets see...7 of my 9 laptops will be solid state machines. eventually i'll move the boot drives on my old P4 desktop (currently on WD Velociraptor 10krpm spinner), my 2008 R2 server, and my 24" iMac to SSD as well.

Jaybee is replacing the 250Gb Hard Disk Drive in my Asus Eee PC 1015PX netbook with a 60Gb Vertex Solid State Drive.

I don't like to shoot with flash, but now the camera is confused by the artificial fluorescent lighting and the white balance is off, producing a yellowish photo.

"I can barely see over this thing!"

Haha, my new 17" MacBook Pro is gigantic! It's the first 17" laptop I've owned and I'm still getting used to the size. It's really fun. It feels quite weird to pick this thing up and carry around the house.
