I'm not sure who this sign is encouraging me to join in protecting solar energy. The other side of the sign is the same and offers no extra details.
Black Rock Solar arranged a field trip for students from Hunter Lake Elementary School in Reno to visit the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribal Museum and Cultural Center. Students learned about renewable energy and Paiute culture at the museum, which is partially powered by a Black Rock Solar array.

Headed out of the office this morning to try to get a few photos of the solar eclipse. Didn't quite have the right gear, but you can tell there was an eclipse a little bit. One of these times I'll get around to getting a proper filter.
Solar Impulse is a Swiss long-range solar powered aircraft project developed at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne.
The project eventually hopes to achieve the first circumnavigation of the Earth by a piloted fixed-wing aircraft using only solar power. The project is led by Swiss psychiatrist and aeronaut Bertrand Piccard, who co-piloted the first balloon to circle the world non-stop, and Swiss businessman André Borschberg.

Here the solarized glass medicine bottle is shown resting directly on a 3W 450nm blue LED fixture.
This demonstrates (without using a photographic filter) the longer wavelengths of fluorescence from the solarized glass which are stimulated by visual light.

Energy efficient ('off the grid') Southern Vermont home features:
Electricity generation
2 turbine windmills
2 kinds of solar panels (rigid and amorphous/strips)
Heating/Water
Russian stove (closed chamber wood stove, thermal mass heating system)
solar water heating panels
gas powered radiant heating in the floor.
Low Energy Lighting & Appliances
Because of careful selection of lighting and appliances, the house is able to run within its energy budget almost all of the time.
After 2 years of running completely off-grid (with backup gasoline generator), installed electrical hookup, mostly used to feed excess capacity back into the grid.

Our shack at Elysium. Solar water heater on the left (using an old panel given to us by a friend - Dave Brown). The earlier solar PV system is on the frame on the right - 1.5kW. The roof has another 5.2kW installed in February 2014.
Over the past 2 months we have exported 24 times as much power as we imported.

Solar Flair, L&C's 2017 Summer Garden Show, is a celebration of light, energy, lunar cycles and how plants connect with the cosmos. This year’s theme is influenced by the solar system and culminates with the unique experience of a total solar eclipse that will be visible along a narrow track that runs diagonally from the northwest to southeast coasts across the continental U.S. — with St. Louis very close to the path of totality – on Monday, Aug. 21. It will be the first total solar eclipse to touch the continental U.S. since 1979, and the first to cross from coast to coast since 1918.
This year’s garden show experience will also include a curated art exhibition by Michiko Itatani, which will be free and open to the public from Aug. 22-Sept. 22.
