Opheodrys vernalis
A large gravid female found on the crawl in an open meadow in northern Michigan. These little gems are one of of my favorite snakes in Michigan, and it had been five years since my last live one. Needless to say, emotions were high.

I had originally planned on doing a B&W but I like the color version too. ;)
A ski trip in the Nordmarka, (a wilderness area within city limits of Oslo) may offer a fresh snow, soft evening light, long shadows, silence and solitude. The joy of skis that glide silently through the snow, the light, the atmosphere and the pleasure of unspoiled nature, are stored in the mind's library, and can be used as a mental boost when the days feels like a heavy burden.

Really pleased with how this turned out. He was roughly carved from sponge and then smoothed out with cake pop mix. The details were painted on with cocoa butter and dusts. I hoped the couple liked him!
Hills across Grasmere - dull light and a long exposure making for a brushed smooth silvery
appearance in both clouds and the water surface.
This is a rare bird (ABA Code 3) for North Florida for sure. It is usually found in the Caribbean or further south. I read reports of it being spotted on Little Talbot Island, Duval County, FL between beach trails 1 and 3. Sure enough, I arrived as soon as the park opened and walked down the trail towards the overhang/bathrooms. It was about 30 meters toward the beach atop a scrubby bush in the dunes. I took a few pics and to my surprise, it flew within 10 feet in front of me. It was overcast and terribly backlit. This was my second attempt this month to find it and was so rewarded.

I went to Ft Desoto on this morning hoping for a cloudy sky, Well, I didn't get the sky I wanted but I did get so much more. As I was getting set up and prepared to make this shot. I heard dolphins exhaling through their blowholes but I couldn't see them. I could hear them jumping out of the water but I couldn't see the water splashing. They were so far away but I could hear them like they were very close by. It was so quiet, so serene, so still and so smooth. Just one of the many cool things about living here in Florida.
We saw this huge chunk of rather smooth iceberg the first day I arrived in Ilulissat. It looked really different among the other regular spiky ones and you won't miss it even from far away. This photo was taken at close when we took a boat trip later.
I have been watch this Barn owl for some time now over the winter months, but the light has generally been unkind. Today it shone and so very bright to capture 'Barnaby' quartering a field in and around Lavenham. A truly magical sight.

The British Railways (S) West Country and Battle of Britain classes, collectively known as Light Pacific’s or informally as Spam Cans, are air-smoothed 4-6-2 Pacific steam locomotives designed for the Southern Railway by its Chief Mechanical Engineer Oliver Bulleid. Incorporating a number of new developments in British steam locomotive technology, they were amongst the first British designs to use welding in the construction process, and to use steel fireboxes, which meant that components could be more easily constructed under wartime austerity and post-war economy.
They were designed to be lighter in weight than their sister locomotives, the Merchant Navy class, to permit use on a wider variety of routes, including in the south-west of England and the Kent coast. They were a mixed-traffic design, being equally adept at hauling passenger and freight trains, and were used on all types of services, frequently far below their capabilities. A total of 110 locomotives were constructed between 1945 and 1950, named after West Country resorts or Royal Air Force (RAF) and other subjects associated with the Battle of Britain.
Due to problems with some of the new features, such as the Bulleid chain-driven valve gear, sixty locomotives were rebuilt by British Railways during the late 1950s. The results were similar to the rebuilt Merchant Navy class. The classes operated until July 1967, when the last steam locomotives on the Southern Region were withdrawn. Although most were scrapped, twenty locomotives are preserved on heritage railways in Britain.
WCBB Class 4-6-2 No.34088 ‘213 Squadron’ was designed by Oliver Bulleid and was built at Brighton Works (BR) in 1948 under British Railways, it was rebuilt at Eastleigh Works (BR) in 1960 –from new it was allocated to 74B Ramsgate Shed, it ended up at 70D Eastleigh Shed where it remained until being withdrawn in 1967 and ended up being scrapped at Cashmore’s Newport.

Dehradun bound Shatabdi from New Delhi accelerates through Dhandera after its scheduled halt at Roorkee. At the helm is offlink from Gomoh, a WAP7.
I used to frequently photograph this train during my railfanning sessions in Roorkee, with Dhandera station being my starting point. I started my journey of capturing trains, from this very place.
This particular shot was taken when I returned to Roorkee for my convocation, two months after bidding farewell to the place. The experience was nostalgic, evoking memories of the magic from the old days. It definitely warrants another trip to this section.

The winner of "best in show" and my favorite of the day, an absolutely beautiful mk1 on bags with a 24v VR6 in a shaved bay. The paint looked like it was dripping wet and the work inside and out was just amazing. The owner did the work himself and deserves all the credit and attention he got.
