Another old image, taken sometime in the mid 70s. I didn't notice the happy face background until I dug this one out and converted it from Kodachrome to black and white.
Can you see the smiley face?
On this day at the waterfall walk the light was as I'd never seen it before...showing these colours in a way I hadn't seen either. I was torn between stopping here and getting shots of these colours, or hurrying up to the waterfalls! I didn't want to waste the light! As it happened the light was still wonderful at the top fall (I posted that picture a month ago here ), and when we came back down this way all the light and colours had gone... so for once luck was on my side.

Kept the Thread light balls on a shawl to get the smiley !
Tucked the wires in the folds of the shawl.
Smiley was the man. A man of many smiles. He had limited English, so "smiley" was all he could really say and he used it for everything. Need a drink? "Smiley". Need some help off the boat? "Smiley"? Legend

T722 hustles south out of Smiley Tunnel in Flagler, KY as it nears Hagans Tunnel and the Virginia state line.
I don't know why but this truck just seems to be smiling, to have the barn doors open for some light and some fresh air. Simple things.
