Testfitting some components of the new home automation board. This will connect to a Raspberry Pi (or other PC) via a low power radio link to control various devices and measure for example temperature. Unlike the previous versions this will be 230 V line powered and will have better IO support. I will hopefully have a working board by the end of this week. This board will have a very simple software - in principle it will act like an IO unit on a shared bus from the computers perspective. It will have some registers you can write/read and these registers will be mapped to real hardware IO. The radio protocol will be transparent to the host software on the computer and the bus will appear as a simple serial device.

On Monday, November 10, 2014, the Jacksonville community gathered to welcome home Marine Sgt. Ben Tomlinson, recipient of a "Building for America's Bravest" smart home. The home will allow Sgt. Tomlinson to live independently for the first time since he was severely injured in action in Afghanistan. The effort to build a home for him was spearheaded by the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation and the Gary Sinise Foundation, with the help of many generous national and local donors. Jacksonville State University was a partner in the endeavor. Sgt. Tomlinson's parents, Chuck and Debbie Tomlinson, assist in raising the American flag for the first time at his new home.
