The smallest butterfly I have ever seen. Wingspan 20 - 30mm!

I love the matching stripey legs and antennae!

Our smallest resident butterfly found throughout Britain and Ireland but rare and localised. This one was seen on The Berkshire Downs.

The red-backed fairywren (Malurus melanocephalus) is a species of passerine bird in the Australasian wren family, Maluridae. It is endemic to Australia and can be found near rivers and coastal areas along the northern and eastern coastlines from the Kimberley in the northwest to the Hunter Region in New South Wales. The male adopts a striking breeding plumage, with a black head, upperparts and tail, and a brightly coloured red back and brown wings. The female has brownish upperparts and paler underparts. The male in eclipse plumage and the juvenile resemble the female. Some males remain in non-breeding plumage while breeding. Two subspecies are recognised; the nominate M. m. melanocephalus of eastern Australia has a longer tail and orange back, and the short-tailed M. m. cruentatus from northern Australia has a redder back.

The smallest member of the genus Malurus, the red-backed fairywren measures 11.5 centimetres (4.5 in) and weighs 5–10 g (0.18–0.35 oz), averaging around 8 g (0.28 oz).

The red-backed fairywren mainly eats insects, and supplements its diet with seed and small fruit. The preferred habitat is heathland and savannah, particularly where low shrubs and tall grasses provide cover. It can be nomadic in areas where there are frequent bushfires, although pairs or small groups of birds maintain and defend territories year-round in other parts of its range. Groups consist of a socially monogamous pair with one or more helper birds who assist in raising the young. These helpers are progeny that have attained sexual maturity yet remain with the family group for one or more years after fledging. The red-backed fairywren is sexually promiscuous, and each partner may mate with other individuals and even assist in raising the young from such pairings. Older males in breeding plumage are more likely to engage in this behaviour than are those breeding in eclipse plumage. As part of a courtship display, the male wren plucks red petals from flowers and displays them to females

African pygmy falcons are the smallest raptor on the continent. Although small, African pygmy falcons are predators, and hunt large insects, small reptiles, rodents and even small mammals.

A cockatoo is any of the 21 parrot species belonging to the family Cacatuidae, the only family in the superfamily Cacatuoidea. Along with the Psittacoidea (true parrots) and the Strigopoidea (large New Zealand parrots), they make up the order Psittaciformes. The family has a mainly Australasian distribution, ranging from the Philippines and the eastern Indonesian islands of Wallacea to New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Australia. Cockatoos are recognisable by the prominent crests and curved bills. Their plumage is generally less colourful than that of other parrots, being mainly white, grey or black and often with coloured features in the crest, cheeks or tail. On average they are larger than other parrots; however, the cockatiel, the smallest cockatoo species, is a small bird. Cockatoos prefer to eat seeds, tubers, corms, fruit, flowers and insects. They often feed in large flocks, particularly when ground-feeding. Cockatoos are monogamous and nest in tree hollows. Some cockatoo species have been adversely affected by habitat loss, particularly from a shortage of suitable nesting hollows after large mature trees are cleared; conversely, some species have adapted well to human changes and are considered agricultural pests. Yep... this is the smallest of our Woodpeckers...not too many people pay attention to them. They don't have any of the "flashy" red markings most other bigger Woodpecker Species have to draw attention on them but .. I just love them... It is the first time I catch them with food... but hey, when you think about it, it does not matter how tiny you are, you still have to work for a living... unless of course.… you are from a different world than the one I came from!

(Calidris minutilla) --Least Sandpiper

Least Sandpipers are the smallest of the small sandpipers known as “peeps”—not much bigger than a sparrow. They have distinctive yellow-green legs and a high-pitched creep call. Look for them on edges of mudflats or marshes, where they walk with a hunched posture and probe for little crustaceans, insects, and other invertebrates. This common but declining shorebird migrates thousands of miles between its arctic breeding grounds and wintering grounds as far south as Chile and Brazil.

I'm sorry for my absence, I've been really busy.

The snow around me haven't really be helping much either, but I it will soon melt and I will be up again.

I'm planning on finishing my 52 week project in only a couple of days, and thinking about doing a print giveaway. Does that sound good?

love you all

The cathedral city of Ripon, formerly in the West Riding of Yourkshire, is the third smallest city in England with a population of around 17,000. The rivers Skell and Laver join together just to the west of the city, and having flown through it join the River Ure just to the east of Ripon. The city itself is just over 1,300 years old with its main feature being the cathedral, seen in the background.

The city was originally known as Inhrypum and was founded by Saint Wilfrid during the time when this was the kingdom of Northumbria and it enjoyed prominence in terms of religious importance. It was for a period under Viking control and later suffered under the Normans. After a brief period of building projects under the Plantagenets, the city emerged with a prominent wool and cloth industry. Ripon became well known for its production of spurs during the 16th and 17th centuries, but would later remain largely unaffected by the Industrial Revolution.

Demoiselle crane (Grus virgo) is 85–100 cm long, 76 cm tall and has a 155–180 cm wingspan. It weighs 2–3 kg. It is the smallest species of crane. The demoiselle crane is slightly smaller than the common crane but has similar plumage. It has a long white neck stripe and the black on the foreneck extends down over the chest in a plume. It has a loud trumpeting call, higher-pitched than the common crane. Like other cranes it has a dancing display, more balletic than the common crane, with less leaping.

The smallest of our bird-hunting Accipiter hawks, this one is also the most migratory, breeding north to treeline in Alaska and Canada and wintering south to Panama. It is during migration that the Sharp-shin is most likely to be seen in numbers, with dozens or even hundreds passing at some favored points on coastlines, lake shores, and mountain ridges. At other seasons the hawks lurk in the woods, ambushing songbirds and generally staying out of sight.

The smallest state capitol in the US by population- Montpelier, Vermont- is also one of the prettiest, and is home to a rail line whose character seems to match the diminutive nature of the capitol. This is the Granite District of the Washington County Railroad (a subsidiary of the Vermont Rail System), which serves industries- especially quarries- in the Montpelier and Barre areas. The railroad was originally part of the Boston & Maine, then the Barre & Chelsea, and after a couple periods of dormancy, is now active again- not that you'd know it from this scene, a day after very heavy snow blanketed the area, hiding the rails. The bridge here brings WACR's main line over the Winooski River.

Worlds of Beauty in the Smallest Corners of Nature — IMRAN®

This morning, as I walked K2—my ever-alert German Shepherd—through the quiet streets near my Tampa Bay home, the air was surprisingly mild for a Florida mid-summer Saturday. Amid the stillness, my eyes caught a burst of delicate color on a bush growing wild on an empty lot.

A cluster of soft pink blossoms, their crinkled petals kissed with yellow at the center, stood in quiet defiance of the ordinary. A honeybee hovered with purpose, weaving its part in the great, invisible choreography that sustains life on Earth.

From an online search, the plant appears to be a variety of Spiraea, a hardy flowering shrub known for its resilience and ornamental charm. Often overlooked, it thrives in untamed spaces—reminding us that beauty doesn’t need a spotlight to bloom.

In that fleeting moment, framed by summer and silence, I saw a portrait of tenderness, persistence, and the quiet power of nature to inspire—even in the most random of places.

I have been taking this photo for almost a month, but I was quite busy, so in the end only now.

My biggest doll in the collection is simply Barbie, I don't collect bigger dolls. I hesitated a bit with the smallest doll. My Shelly dolls have plastic little dolls. Finally, I chose a doll from a Kinder egg (a chocolate egg with a surprise). However, this little doll was discovered in a chocolate egg by my mother during her childhood. So it's originally her toy. However, I gradually got all the chocolate egg toys from her collection toys from Kinder Suprise eggs. Of course, as a child I had a bunch of my own Kinder eggs with a surprise.
