Opening Bell: The 30-share BSE Sensex slipped 221.81 points to 28823.47 and the 50-share NSE Nifty lost 74.50 points to 8878. The broader markets also traded in line with benchmarks with the BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices losing 0.7 percent each. About 1167 shares declined against 828 advancing shares on the exchange. HDFC, ITC, ICICI Bank, Tata Motors and Axis Bank were top contributors to Sensex’s fall, down 1.5-2 percent whereas TCS, ONGC, Reliance Industries, Wipro and Dr Reddy’s Labs bucked the trend. In Asian Market, Japan’s index Nikkei is trading up by 0.12% and Hong Kong’s index Heng Seng is trading 1.42% up.

The S&P #BSE #Sensex is trading at 31815 up 68 points, while #NSE #Nifty is trading at 9810 up 23 points. A total of 34 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while 11 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE. The BSE #MidCap Index is trading up 0.39% at 14981, whereas BSE #SmallCap Index is trading up 0.37% at 15864. Some buying activity is seen in Capital Goods, Metal, Pharma, Auto while IT, Finance are showing weakness on BSE. IOC, Hindustan Unilever, Reliance Industries, Ambuja Cements and ONGC are among the #Gainers, whereas Indiabulls Housing Finance, TCS, Asian Paints and HDFC are losing sheen on NSE in the first trading hour.

The stock listed at Rs 190, down nearly 6 percent compared with issue price of Rs 202 per share. PSU oil & gas stocks like ONGC and GAIL were top gainers, rising over 3 percent. Reliance Industries, Sun Pharma, Wipro and Cipla gained over 1 percent while L&T and Coal India fell 1-2 percent.

Sensex remains below 27000; midcap, smallcap outperform

  

The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices gained 0.4 percent and 0.77 percent, respectively. Advancing shares outnumbered declining ones by a ratio of 1707 to 1223 on the BSE.

After a tough struggle, the market ended on a lower note. The Sensex was down 244.48 points or 0.9 percent at 26816.56 and the Nifty slipped 63.50 points or 0.8 percent at 8042.00. About 1750 shares advanced, 1310 shares declined, and 96 shares were unchanged.

Opening Bell : The market extended losses in morning trade with the Nifty breaking 7950 level, dragged by FMCG and technology stocks. However, buying in oil and select banking & financials stocks arrested the fall. The 30-share BSE Sensex fell 79.56 points to 25900.04 and the 50-share NSE Nifty slipped 28.70 points to 7950.40. The broader markets also traded lower with the BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices falling 0.3-0.5 percent on weak breadth. About 1036 shares declined against 707 advancing shares on the BSE.
