We all need a bit of flamboyance at times. For this, the appearance of a Vermillion Flycatcher (male) is just the right thing. This handsome fellow perched on a branch just in front of me. Admired at Choke Canyon State Park, Calliham, Texas.

Number five in this series features Stuart, a small Iowa town in Adair County with around 1,800 residents. The old downtown area in Stuart has some lovely historic buildings, with trendy retail shops and varied dining options. For example, Doe A Deer is a home goods store offering kitchenware, specialty foods and other gifts. Next door, the Maven Blush Boutique offers chic and stylish women's apparel and accessories.

About the series: Life in a small Midwestern town often means a slower pace of life, close-knit communities, and a strong connection to the land and agriculture. Residents typically have a strong sense of pride in their hometown and a friendly, neighborly attitude. Small towns usually have limited employment and entertainment options, but the tradeoff is typically a lower cost of living and a quieter, more peaceful environment. Presented in black and white at night, I hope to capture the essence of a few small Iowa towns in this series. Series Album: flic.kr/s/aHBqjBWTai

The second in a series of black and white night photos, this one showing the Spring City Pharmacy in Colfax, Iowa. Does Walgreens or CVS have an old fashioned ice cream fountain that serves homemade ice cream, shakes, and malts? No, but just like those big chain stores, this pharmacy also has a nice selection of gifts, toys, candy, games and home décor too. My wife likes to shop at the next building down the street, there’s a wonderful antique and gift shop there.

Having seen the train down in Palu we drove (carefully down the hill haha) down to Beyhan station to find DE33 071 and DE24 356 still waiting with their mixed freight. A chat with the driver whilst the second man went to the local shop revealed what we assumed in that the train was headed for Tatvan. Beyhan is a small village in the Murat valley, located near to a fairly new dam. A key feature of the village that couldn't be missed off a photo is the local mosque. Quite an impressive building! It seems however that the station has some posts erected maybe for the planned electrification of the route? Not great at all if so!

A 'Small Copper' butterfly taking in what little sun there was this afternoon. Our wonderful display of Heleniums is finally coming to an end but they still seem to have some appeal to insects.

A large falcon that is endemic to South Asia including parts of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. This is as large as a Peregine Falcon and taller than Saker Falcon, but more leaner unlike the bulky build of Saker Falcon or Peregrine Falcon. We sighted them on two days in action - they were hunting in the area and one of them was fighting with the Saker Falcon. They seem to be quite common in the desert regions and as a fan of falcons was delighted to be sighting them and seeing them in action.
This was sighted in Pokhran, again a desert region. The bird was hunting in the area possibly targeting the many small birds like Pipits, Larks, Crested Larks, Wheatears etc.. There was no dearth of prey. Unfortunately, we didn't see it with any catch though and we were in a rush to see the Indian Bustards, so had to move along.
Many thanks in advance for your views, faves and feedback - very much appreciated.
🎶 A beautiful song by ANTHONY LAZARO - SMALL RAINBOWS
"Staring out the window
On a cloudy morning
Trying to lick our wounds
While the tea is warming
Sometimes it's like our boat
Has never shipped out
Sometimes we go around
On a neverending route
This week has been a mess but I'm gonna tell you
We'll rebuild our world, gonna make it brand new
We're gonna plot our way for a comeback
We only need some time and I promise you that
And I promise you that
And I promise you that"
I promised to come back to my watercolour sketchbook, so I did to make this, my own mess with the new paint set from MISSION GOLD on WINSOR & NEWTON watercolour paper
No crazy photo manipulation except for cropping and blurring to make it look more 3D
Hope you like it
Happy day to you, dear friend!
An autumn day lost in the middle of the Belgian countryside. Greyness, coolness, mist and the magic of a countryside criss-crossed by little paths suspended on duckboards.
Journée automnale perdue au milieu de la Fagne belge. Grisaille, fraicheur, brume et magie d’une campagne parcourue de petits sentiers suspendus sur caillebotis.
This home is located in my small town of Bostwick Ga. It's protected from by passers as there's a no trespassing sign attached to the fence post. I wish more homes of this nature were protected so we can learn more about those who came before us
This tiny flower (Wild Geranium) stood out as I walked by. Sometimes the best things come in small packages ! Seen at the Los Angeles County Arboretum
This image is of a little red dart frog. It is poisonous to touch and one is always cautious when photographing them . They are very small and some are no bigger than my thumb nail. they are really quite beautiful with their vibrant red coat and big black eyes. It is always exciting to see these little creatures in their natural habitat. This was taken on our lasted trip to Costa Rica. We took eight other photographers with us . It was great fun !
