#smalltowninertia Wonderful day today as I was able to go collect the electric tricycle, so generously donated to Jimmy by the York-based company, Jorvik tricycles.

I rode it the mile from Paul’s Cycles, whom upon delivery built the tricycle from kit form and it rides like a dream!.

Arriving at Jimmy’s the very first thing he did, was pop him two Jacks, Lady and Charlie, in the rear basket, exclaiming “How we’ll turn heads in the town now!.”

Jimmy, was delighted, it’s really a dream come true. A dream come true and also, with the continued independence and safety the tricycle shall afford, life changing and saving.

I’ll be back tomorrow to work more on Jimmy’s coming story and to make some portraits with his new tricycle!.

Huge thanks go to James Walker and all the team at Jorvik, you’re a shining example of all a great company should be, an extension of who we are as people and not oblivious to the plight of others, of other communities. When I reached out to you, we were strangers to one another, now, we’re friends and I’m so excited for Jorvik and the future of all you do.

Today was overcast when I woke but by mid morning the sun was out and having checked on the internet for the weather where I wanted to go I decided to make my annual visit to this location.

It was sunny all the time I was there. Small blues were abundant but not settling for long as a rule. There were a fair number of common blues and a few small heaths too as well as the occasional other species.

Few of the butterflies settled with wings open so I am very pleased with this shot.

One fleet that we don't often feature is that of Ramsbottom Urban District Council - it was tiny, with just eleven buses when it was absorbed into SELNEC as the new Passenger Transport Executive's small constituent.

But its crimson and cream buses were kept smart, and the UDC bought about one bus per year on average to keep the fleet up to date. But when we say 'up to date' we mean 'made recently' because Ramsbottom was very conservative (although in the early 1950s it had bought one of the very first underfloor-engined buses in the area). Its small size meant that it wasn't geared up for the most modern rear-engined buses, with all the complications of fluid flywheels and complicated electrics, so Ramsbottom carried on buying what it knew worked - solid, trusty Leyland 'Titan' buses like number 2 here.

In fact Ramsbottom carried on doing these Leyland PD-series buses so long that the last one it ordered, arriving a few days after SELNEC took over, was made up of spare parts in the Leyland factory and was the last, the very very last, traditional front-engined traditional double decker bus to enter service in the UK. That bus, number 11, is today restored and on display at the the Museum of Transport Greater Manchester alongside number 17, a 1947 Leyland PS1 single decker.

That means that the Museum has Ramsbottom buses representing about a sixth of the Council's final fleet when taken over: to achieve the same proportion of Manchester buses would require us to keep a collection of over 200 Manchester Corporation buses...

As part of my partner and I's recent epic adventures, we decided to do some walking in the Lake District, UK, and we managed to find some hidden gems like this one. More from our trip to come.. watch this space

I'm not really sure where this was within the store, but we can see the aisles were neat and clean. Unfortunately, the (possibly) original floor was very worn: cool artifact for certain, but made the entire store feel very dated.

😃 I was having so much fun playing with the glass scraps in this delightful color combo .... I just had to make a few more!

Even stayed in position while I ran in to change lens.

Small-leaved Boronia (Boronia microphylla). Photographed in Blue Mountains National Park along Mount Wilson Rd, just outside of Mount Wilson, New South Wales, Australia.

Today I met Tony at Jevington and we walked round to Folkington Church and on to the Long Man and then back onto the top to Lullington Heath and through the reserve and back to Jevington just over 11 miles in all it was cloudy all day but with a strong breeze so every butterfly and bird image was hard work. Still we had yet another really good day and walk although I think I nearly killed Tony up the last hill. So 19 images of the some of the wildlife we saw.

backlit pictures of the small swarm tessellation.

We both moved out through the building back into the street, with her leading in front. I dusted off my Geiger counter and made sure it was still working. I put it away in my pocket as I looked up towards her.

Phin - “So, uh…”Cristy”, would it be too much to ask for my Glock back?”

Cristy - “You can take care of yourself.”

Phin - “Do you even know how to use that thing?”

Cristy - “You have to be an idiot not to know how to use a gun out here.”

I looked over her shoulder to check on it.

Phin - “…You realize I left the safety on, right?”

She snaps her eyes down and checks it.

Chisty - “Y-yes. Of course!”

She quickly starts fiddling with it as I try to hold in my chuckling.

Phin - “So, anyway…how long have you been out here for?”

Cristy - “A-…a year.”

Phin - “All by yourself?”

Cristy - "Yes…”

Phin - “Weren't you lonely though?”

Cristy - “Okay, would you stop with the questions?!"

Alrighy then...I guess now isn't the best time for small talk. Better to just follow along and try to avoid getting her pissed. She’s right though, no telling who could be listening out here. After what happened last night, I should be more cautious…

Phin – “Alright…okay.”

We continued down the side of the street; layered in soot like everywhere else. At least I have someone with me now. I still have no idea what the plan is. But for now, I guess it’s survive…
