at Prees Heath Small Skippers are insects of high summer. Although they spend much of their time basking or resting among vegetation, they are marvellous flyers, manoeuvring expertly through tall grass stems. It is these darting flights, wings glinting golden-brown in the sunlight, that normally alert an observer to their presence.
Well here is another butterfly and this time I will guess at a Small Skipper . As ever I am ready to be corrected , still pretty new at trying to ID these little creatures .
Marden Meadow - a return trip in the hope of more Kingfisher feeding shots (no luck on last 3 visits). Very quiet on Kingfisher front initially (eventually put in an appearance when I was photographing the Small Coppers of which there were 2)
okay, so perhaps not the most colourful of butterflies, but certainly the littlest in the UK - a Small Blue
Found in the forest. Nice one, isn't it? :)
Common toad or European toad is widespread throughout Europe, with the exception of Ireland and some Mediterranean islands. Its easterly range extends to Irkutsk in Siberia and its southerly range includes parts of northwestern Africa in the northern mountains of Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia.
Adults can grow to 18 cm (7 in) and their skin has a warty appearance and ranges from green to brown.
Toads generally hunt at night, and are most active in wet weather. As a defense against predators they secrete a toxic, foul tasting substance called bufagin. This is enough to deter many predators although grass snakes and hedgehogs are immune. Although the adults spend most of their time on land the females enter ponds and other still waters to lay their eggs, toadspawn, which can be distinguished from the spawn of the common frog as it forms strings rather than a large mass of eggs. Eggs are laid in the spring, with the females attempting to return to the water in which they were born.

A shot of Frankfurt´s covered market hall (Kleinmarkthalle).
If I would translate Kleinmarkthalle literally it would be like: small market hall, so I thought a little tilt & shift action fits the title better ;-)
Always nice to go there shopping for fresh ingredients or just for lunch, you can get nearly everything there!

Rainbow, text, birds on a wire...I'm not sure how I resisted keeping this - but I just dropped it in the mailbox. Hope the intended recipient loves it as much as I do.

Mills like this were used for draining pastures, particularly in Friesland. Usually they were owned by the farmer himself. The auger screw the water up. It then flows out of a dike in a watercourse.

I have been asked several times why I use the Kenko extension tubes. Why not the Nikon tubes?
The Kenko tubes have the Auto Focus contacts that are needed for the Focus Shift Shooting feature of the Z6, Z7 and D850 to function. The Nikon extension tubes don't have the contacts.
When using Focus Shift Shooting (FSS), the camera captures an image an then uses the AF motors to move the lens to the next calculated plain of focus before shooting again. Without the AF contacts found in the Kenko tubes, the camera has no way to communicate with the AF motors.
